Tom Lockyer had heart surgery in June to address a problem that saw him collapse during Luton's play-off final win at Wembley. The 28-year-old had an atrial fibrillation, a condition the NHS describes as causing "an irregular and often abnormally fast heart rate". He has collapsed again today, players off pitch whilst he receives treatment
A truly awful moment for everyone at the game. Also, one of those moments that bring every football fan together. Right call to abandon the match and the unity and support in the stadium is a credit to everyone there and highlights the best aspects of the beautiful game. Wishing Tom Lockyear a full and speedy recovery
Statement from Luton. We all hope and pray for our leader and captain Tom Lockyer, who is thankfully responsive and has been taken to hospital. We don’t know the full extent of what happened and what the next steps are at this stage, but we thank Bournemouth and the medical staff on both sides for their immediate response, which was absolutely amazing. We are sorry to all supporters present that players from both sides were in no state of mind to continue with the game after seeing their much-loved team-mate and friend taken off like that, and staff could not carry on with managing the game in such circumstances having had to deal with the situation. We thank everyone for the wonderful applause and singing of Locks’ name inside the stadium at such a difficult time. Now is the time for all of our players, staff and supporters to come together as we always do and give our love and support to To
BBC reporting he suffered a full cardiac arrest this time as well, I think he just collapsed last time? You would have to say that should probably be time to call it a day playing, but most importantly it sounds like he is hopefully going to be ok.
If that’s going to happen at all, during a game is probably the best place it can happen. Almost immediate medical care on hand. Hope he recovers fully and gets to live out the rest of his life with his loved ones.
I’ve just seen the goals from Chelsea v sheff Utd. I’d be interested in opinions on the second goal, I think sheff utd player should still be sent off for the foul on Sterling, despite the fact Chelsea go on to score. See what you think on MOTD?
I haven't seen it yet but unless it's violent conduct or serious play, that would be impossible. You can't send him off for DOGSO because a goal has been scored.
Update from Luton. While our captain Tom Lockyer remains in hospital following the cardiac arrest he suffered on the pitch at Bournemouth yesterday, we understand that supporters are concerned for him and that there is widespread media interest in his condition. Tom is still undergoing tests and scans, and is awaiting the results before the next steps for his recovery are determined. We are unable to provide a running commentary on his situation, and request that all media please wait for any updates to be released via the club’s official channels when the time is right. We all want the very best for Tom, his partner Taylor and the whole Lockyer family, and politely ask that his and their privacy is respected at this difficult time.
Aston Villa still going well. Saw a comment yesterday, in the media, that with United and Newcastle going out of the Champions League in the group stage, the coefficient could mean just 4 places in next year’s competition. Not sure how accurate that is but it’s more enjoyable to see the less fashionable teams doing so well in the Premier League.
Hmmm yes it would have been for DOGSO. I know we’ve had this exact discussion before so I know I’m wrong (in the laws of the game) although I still don’t agree it should be! In my opinion it denied a clear goal scoring opportunity but fortunately for everyone another one happened to come along straight after . It denied A goal scoring opportunity as opposed to THE opportunity. Seems strange to me that this doesn’t matter
