aye but he also speaks to players all the time. It’s a big talking point at the club. To think the players haven’t spoken to Speakman about it and vice versa is a bit unlikely if you think about it

McKenna had zero before Ipswich appointed him, Maresca had 14 games with Parma before he was sacked and went to City before Leicester appointed him, Rosenior had 12 as Derby interim before they replaced him and he went to Hull, Carrick had 3 games as Man Utd interim before Boro appointed him.

Because they can't know who the best option is without interviewing others.

    They might rate Dodds.

They might also rate a few others.

It is possible for both those things to be true.

They interview them all, do whatever they have to to evaluate them, Dodds included and see who comes out on top - and at this stage Dodds might have bettered the available competition at this moment in time. Who knows.

But the process isn't rocket science.

McKenna retired from football early tho I’m sure he was only 25 or something then went straight into working within coaching set ups and the management side. He was given the job in L1 and jointly has control of transfers I think that’s a totally different kettle of fish. He was managing PL youth teams and then the assistant manager of one of the biggest teams in world football for a few years he wasn’t a coach.

Carrick and Rosenior have done nout worth talking about to my knowledge.

Maresca is a fair one although he’s been a few managers assistants before going to City’s EDS iirc. You could’ve given Lee Johnson the Leicester job this season and he would’ve struggled to have not been promoted.

They have said things though. When Mowbray went KLD talked about implementing a high performance culture right across the club. The process they followed after sacking Johnson did not smack of high performance. This time is starting to look similar, IF, Still is not the man. Time will tell, but to me they were quite deliberate in the things they said after firing him, long term strategy, high performancd culture, identifying ths right man. They got the right man in Neil, eventually, I hope they do the same here.

I think the overarching point is that everyone has to start somewhere.

This is my take on the H/Coach job.

A lot of talk about data driven info on players, coaches, managers, teams.
Surely we keep the same data on our own players, coaches and head coach/ manager.
That being the case, the club hierarchy must have enough data on Dodds to make
a decision on their own coach.

I’ll be slightly disappointed if it’s Dodds after the Will Still hype train, but I don’t think it’ll be the end of the world?

Giving it to Dodds till end of the season would surely be better than giving it to someone 4th / 5th choice like Eustace or Heckingbottam etc where we’d have to rip up plans and start again.

We’d be able to properly plan and look at alternatives for end of the season. Potentially Will Still again as he has an exit clause apparently.

Dodds has shown that he’s learned from the last time he was in caretaker charge and got a good result against West Brom, and an excellent result against Leeds. The players clearly like him and he’s got 2 wins out of 2. Fair play to him.

Put it this way, Mowbray would not have won the last two. No chance.

Getting someone like that in would go against everything we’ve been told.

The plan was always for the ‘model’ to run a certain way and any coach coming in would have to fit that. If it’s not Still then I think it’s a certainty to be Dodds, which is probably the sensible appointment in that scenario.

Tbf that process has gotten it absolutely right every time so far, and probably against the wishes of the supporters.
