Leicester are 13 points ahead of us now, despite us having lost only one more game. Which shows the impact of draws at the top end of the league. That said, I accepted top two was over when Watford got their equaliser. As I said on Saturday, it's now just five months of keeping the points ticking over until the play-offs. Not exactly a thrilling thought.
We're 4th in the league. Comfortably in the play offs. Yes I was hoping to a be a lot closer to the top 2 but it's not as if we're floundering in mid table.
It wasn't abject, but I do find it really quite hard to watch our games with any level of excitement. We're quite a dull team to watch. For the first twenty, that wasn't the case, as we were moving the ball about quickly and looking incisive. But when we revert to the slow "bring them on to you" stuff, it's really quite tedious. We're doing okay, but we could and should be an awful lot better.
I agree with this but we have too many of these games to get promoted automatically, you need to find a way to win these tough away fixture's to finish top two. I don't think it's possible anymore to claim that we're still in the autos hunt and that this is a good result So I suppose if depends on your expectations? I've thought for a solid couple of months that we're not good enough for autos this season so it doesn't really bother me that it seems to be slipping further and further away. However I can see why those who think we've still got a chance of finishing top two would be disappointed. The way I see it no matter how the season goes it's a win win. I don't see us dropping out the top 6 so we either go on a stupendously good run to get autos against all odds, win a final at Wembley, or have another season of no VAR to look forward to. Not to mention a couple of derbies!
Exactly this. The results aren't great, but they're not awful. It's the manner in which we're playing them. It's so ****ing dull. Martin makes Puel look like a mid 90s Keegan. Boring, boring, boring.
The top two this season have both set the points record for this stage of any Championship season so it's going to be tough sledding for whoever can try and chase them down.
We have been maximally punished for a poor start to the season, since then we have arguably been in promotion form but Leicester and Ipswich have been utterly ruthless. 12 points is a big big ask, but not entirely impossible. We need to convert these draws into wins though, we are not clinical enough. It is frustrating, but I don't want to be too harsh on the club because bar that dire dire patch of 4 losses in a row we have been turning in some good results and 12 unbeaten is actually a bit crazy. Need to keep on going in case one of the top two drop off, it is unlikely but not impossible.
I accept that. But I read words like abject and it smacks of arrogance. It's like we're the Man United fans of the Championship.
Yep. There’s no way we’ll catch or even are capable of catching top2. Regardless of not even being half way thro season. Best we can hope for is that we maintain play off position & improve enough to be able to win thro that route. Play off Teams typically are in good form at season end, so we’ll need to be similar. Personally I’m not convinced about us & I’m even more concerned about next season, if we managed. Yep I know the last comment is loaded with 000’s of “if’s” but I’ve always been a forward planner.
No but we have the budget of a big six club in this league. Yet we are playing pathetic pedestrian football and making teams with a tenth of our budget look like world beaters
Yeah I'm not too bothered about being so far off the top two with the quality of the squad, these things happen and it's a very strong league this year. I do however struggle with the fact we're so dull to watch for such large periods when we have a top 3 squad in the league. But then I've always placed a higher value on style over results
I actually don't think Coventry played that badly. Yes they were limited, but I could certainly see why they don't lose too often. My frustration is more to do with the fact that we showed next to no ambition to force a winner. A draw is a pointless point (oxymoron). I suppose so much of it stems back to not replacing Tella, and deciding that our new striker should be someone carrying a serious injury.
The frustrating part is that we have the ability to play quickly and rip teams in this division apart. If we'd carried on the intensity of the first twenty minutes, we'd have won that by two or three, despite Adarma leaving whatever shooting boots he has at home.
Just floundering. Watching Saints is like watching a washing machine.Round and round and round on a repeat cycle. Not entertaining in any way.
I think once you slow the tempo down that much it's extremely hard to then step it back up again when it's needed. Especially when playing teams willing to completely surrender possession, you end up too comfortable almost and that's when concentration levels slip and simple passes start going astray.
Downes hopefully back next game, Bree should be playing, we need Edozie or Fraser starting while Kamaldeen not available Also Downes playing should free up Stu to be his usual progressive self Is Che still a square peg in a round hole?
