He's an animal no doubt about it but his decision making sometimes is poor, that chance at weekend when he smashed it from 30 yards when the correct choice was to lay it off to Adama who was in acres.
Delap has a brilliant brain when in space in midfield and creates numerous chances and goals for us by turning defenders inside out, but his shot placement needs improving.
Oh for sure think he’s desperate to score and they’re the best chances he gets in our system. He strikes the ball like Harry Kane in terms of how hard he hits it just needs to like Syd says work on his placement
I think Delap will go on to have a fantastic career at the highest level. If we can sign him up for the next few years it'll be as important as the Philogene transfer was. Also keep in mind Delaps age... a certain Harry Kane was out on loan in the Championship at his age and with similar numbers too. Im not for a second saying he'll be anywhere near as good but the kid has high potential for sure.
If we get delap, then we really do have some fantastic youngsters in the squad which are our players, I just really wish LR would add some experience into the mix with them. Bar the top 3/4 this league is still wide open this season and play off spots there for the taking. One of those spots could easily be ours if LR swallowed his pride and changed his view. Imagine the possibilities of Jaden / delap / Morton etc mixed with some experience I'm sure we all remember a certain mix of youth, potential and experience in the form of Campbell and windass... And look what happened there.
I agree, I recall the signing of Abdoulaye Faye being a wtf moment, but he was cracking in our promotion year.
I loved Faye that year, played really well for us and was a great character. When we beat Leeds away 3-2 i think it was, he had a great game and scored a bullet header, brilliant away day that. Scoreline flattered them, could've been 5/6-0.
Coyle, Christie, Siri, Ozan, Allsop are all well established players in terms of age. Plus we have a lot of younger players who now have plenty of experience. The club’s philosophy is clearly to bring them in young and develop them, but seems that that is then used to beat Rosenior because he is threatened by older players.
It's so frustrating, I was weary of it before the season started but now it's obvious it's missing, the experience of when to shoot, when to pass, be in the right place at the right time, not giving away silly goals, finishing chances etc etc is all missing from our talented but very young inexperienced players. Not only would that experience be invaluable on the pitch but also on the training ground as well. It's so obvious, LR must see it! Hopefully he/we deal with it in Jan, if he doesn't then he's either not seeing it and that's worrying or he does see it but chooses not to address it, which is also worrying.
I'm not beating LR at all, just pointing out the glaringly obvious and you seriously can't compare the players you've just mentioned against the players we had in our promotion seasons in terms of experience etc... just go look at our promotion teams and then look at what we have no, the levels of experience are miles apart. We are so close to having a genuine play off challenging team, it just needs some real experience imo
He's tried to address the lack of pace and trickery, with Philo, Lokilo, Vinagre, Delap, albeit hampered by injury,. I agree we still lack experience, plus on field leadership (linked), big characters, physicality (we are relatively soft). Surely he sees it, so he either finally belatedly addresses it in January or else he just doesn't want those sort of players around.
I remember a couple of months back Rosenior talked a lot about us needing to shoot earlier because we were getting into positions and not getting a shot off. Since then, Delap has at times been obviously shooting very early, and others have too. It's good to see that they're working on it, but I think at times it's gone too far the other way and we're just blasting shots anywhere. For some reason we seem to be really struggling this season to find the right time to shoot and the right balance between waiting for an opening to be good enough and not waiting so long that we miss the opening altogether.
Not meaning to have a pop at Rosenior just for the fun of it, but I honestly think this touches on one of his major weaknesses - an inability to coach attacking phases & finishing. And nobody in his coaching team to counteract it? Month after month, I just don't see improvement in our attacking & finishing and don't see what he's trying to achieve, other than let Philogene or ano produce some magic.
I think that'd be a fair point specifically regarding finishing. But our attacking play up to the finishing is very good; we create loads of chances in every game. Overall he's done and is doing a very good job. He'll need to sort out the finishing to take us up to the next level and I'm sure he knows that. He's improved everything else and only time will tell whether he can sort that last bit.
