So, what's Rat been up to in the last few years, to earn back his rightful seat?

Well there's been this collaboration, which I love...

...and this which went a long way to healing any enmity with Paul and rat's behaviour that led to the band losing him and captain...

..Oh yeah, a little bit of this...

    ..and now, he's ****ing back!!!!

Just as well this year's Christmas pressie is...

...one of these babies, signed by the man himself...

I wasn't familiar with this before Frank Skinner just played it. Impressive...

I remember a TV show produced by Janet Street Porter , it went out on Sunday lunch time and my first recollection of Shane was him covered in blood caused by head banging at a punk gig

Saw The Skids last night with From The Jam, both were superb, Richard Jobson was on great form, this was the only new song that they played, but it was mainly the oldies, with Working for the Yankee Dollar, and Masquerade particular highlights for me.

If you ignore the fact that in the late '70's it would have been very unusual to have a camera crew around to record a random encounter, this is an interesting brief insight into Lennon. I'd like to believe it ..

That's a cracking night out. I saw The Skids at The 100 Club a few months back. They were absolutely great! You can tell just how much they're loving it.

Will be seeing From The Jam a few times this summer. Always fun.

I received my preordered Redskins live double CD this morning courtesy of Rough Trade and listening to it was instantly transported back to 1985. What struck me is how little has really changed in the past 38 years! Back then when I was going to Redskins gigs against the backdrop of amongst other things, the miners strike and Thatcher's bullying was the hope that things could get better if only Labour could somehow find a way back into government. Nearly 40 years later and even that seems futile in view of where Labour currently appear to be. At least the Redskins still sound like that missing link between The Jam and The Clash live which is where I always felt they were at their best, studio wise they seemed to lose their power!

It was 1984. Also on a REALLY strong line up were Spear of Destiny, The Fall and New Model Army.

It was Captain's last appearance as a full member of the band for over a decade. He guested in '86 at the 10 Year Tea Party gigs and played at original line up shows in 89 and '91 but, he didn't reappear until after the Dave/Rat schism, allegedly caused by the 'Not of This Earth'/'I'm Alright Jack (& The Beanstalk)' album.

Sorry, got distracted...it was a Save The GLC thingy. I was a lot more sober than for the previous year's shenanigans.

A bit surreal, but we spoke to The Times and The Sunday Times about the state that venues find themselves in at the moment. You can grab a physical copy, or check the comment section for the link. It's a 45 minute talk condensed into 900 words, but it succinctly gets across many of the problems facing our sector.

An excerpt from our weekly mailer (please sign up!) proceeded this, which is copied here:

We need to talk about… Moles Nightclub. I’m sure many of you have seen the devastating news that one of the UK’s most beloved venues, Moles in Bath is shutting their doors after 45 years. Much like Esquires, Moles was a breeding ground for local and national artists to hone their craft and take that first rung on the ladder in their live careers - a right of passage for touring bands. The closure of this venue will rip the heart out of the live music community within the city, but it’s not the only venue facing significant pressures at the moment. This year alone, over 120 live music venues have shut down across the country, over 15%. Many pressures are affecting these spaces, which are essentially the ‘research and development’ arm of bigger venues and huge promoters, but not being supported by that top rung once the work has been done at this level.

Please remember, that buying tickets in advance for shows and supporting your grassroots venues year round is the only way to keep them alive. Our MD, Gareth spoke to The Sunday Times earlier this week and you can find out more (if it gets approved!) this weekend by picking up a copy. Head to The Music Venue Trust socials to find out more.

Its funny whenever I hear this I always expect Madness and the return of the Los Palmas 7 to follow it, and those songs as far as I know only appear together on a tape that I made in the 80s!
