2-1 FT Deserved win. Great performance 1st half performance. Bit average in the 2nd half, just did enough.
Why do refs allow games to continue I didn’t see the first half but I thought the second half was great to watch. We completely dominated the play and should have wrapped the game up with the chances. Garnacho should hold down a starting position to allow him the chance to advance his game.
It's a fair point. I'm just not sure he does enough in the middle of the pitch, but goals is goals I suppose.
You have to factor in Chelsea were ****, we gave the ball away far too much 2nd half and didn't really dominate or control the game like we did in the first 45 mins. Overall it was our finishing that let us down though.
Btw I would've given MOTM to Maguire. He was excellent. Not just defensively, but some of his play further up the pitch, picking out some decent passes to players into space.
Agree with Shearer. Ten Hag picked his players. They performed, created chances, and won the game. The team now needs to get behind him and he needs to pick his players!
They are ALL his players! I really don’t agree with the nonsense of “his” players. Look at the transformation with Maguire. All on ETH. The PR fkup with Sancho, all ETH. Rashford shtshow, it’s on ETH for continuing to pick him. They are all his players at this point and he needs to own them all.
Maguire was given his chance and the turn around is in a large part down to his attitude. So he has EARNED his place and his plaudits. And he's worked his way back into being one of TH's players. What I mean by his players are those he's brought in, those he can trust from the old guard, and the youngsters he's bringing through.
Good match and much needed result. BUT It certainly couldn’t be as bad as the Newcastle match which was rock bottom and a disgrace. It had to go up from there. Was our better performance due to us playing better or Chelsea being simply awful? Let’s face it. Chelsea were one of the worst teams we faced at OT this season. Did they really nearly beat City and the RS? Antony played with more heart than Rashford. Incredible that this can even be said but Rashford not playing made a difference. Welcome win but then we all knew we would beat Chelsea as they are not top half are they Which team will turn up against Bournemouth this weekend? This one or the Newkie one?
I expect Bournemouth to give us a tougher game than Chelsea did tonight. Having said that, I'm expecting hoping our finishing will be better than it was tonight as well.
Hojlund could do with a goal now. He's very useful as a spearhead, and a distraction for defenders, but now needs to be provided with some proper chances and start to score goals. Won't be long before the media is on this, and that will put more pressure on him. Hopefully he breaks that against Bournemouth, as the one after that league wise is Liverpool! As far as the Liverpool game is concerned, they are clearly a good team but have also recently scraped an injury time draw with Luton and an injury time win against Fulham, who scored three. We've got to go into it expecting a result. Not fearing a hammering.
You just stated what the problem is there. Maguire faced the same predicament as Sancho, but he had the correct attitude while Sancho didn’t. Perhaps it’s down to the age factor. Either way, we need more players like Maguire and McTominay in that team. Hopefully we can start to cut loose players that simply don’t have the right attitude to work in any capability that they are called into.
Another terrible transfer. Not so much the player, but the fee is simply unbelievable for a player that still needs time. It really makes you question the whole setup at the club. This is why we badly need Ratcliffe sooner than later.
Well he didn't really. He never fell out with ETH, and always stated it was his intention to stay. He's worked hard and got back in the team, not the same as Sancho. (told you so by the way!)
Price wise, yes. But that's it. The kid is CL top goal scorer. Once he gets a couple in the PL, more will follow. We've over paid, but the potential is clearly there. United have done this type of thing before by the way, long before the current set up. Gary Birtles, Peter Davenport, Terry Gibson, Diego Forlan, Alan Brazil ffs................ All over paid for and all struggled to score. We very, very rarely get it right centre forward wise, unless it's the absolute finished article. RVN aside, and even he was to an extent.
Mind you, Maguire played himself out of the team. He effectively became a liability by allowing the mistakes to define him match after match. He almost became the new Phil Jones. But I am quite happy for him and his show of real character hence why he didn't fall out with the manager. Frankly, ETH should have got rid of Sancho in the summer when we could have received good money for him. At least he must have known then that the attitude is rotten. That is on ETH for allowing it to get this far.
