Guardian article just released. Basically says we're after him McKenna (unlikely) And Sable (but says reportedly after)
Ticks a lot of boxes does Still mind, even that he speaks fluent English and French when you think of the make up of our squad. Watched the masterclass video, worth a listen for sure, speaks well. Obviously might seem unlikely with where he is currently managing but Sunderland is a big job even in the championship and we would tick a lot of boxes for him too I’d have thought. Would be more than happy to take a chance on him
Surprised a bit at the excitement over Still personally. 45 games as a head coach? I am sure I read he was more direct in his play than we are probably setup for. Would he really be that good a fit? He has had a lot of press because of his journey to the job, rather than the football I suspect. Could be the next big thing, or could be someone with an awful lot still to learn. I think I would be aiming in a different direction personally.
can’t believe that hadn’t attracted a single ‘like’ anyway I’ve just seen him house hunting in Mill Hill
The bits I have read seem to suggest a good fit, I'd be happier with him than that Sable that's been linked
From what I can see and read they play out from the back but look to find the striker over the top with a long ball. Also play a lot of diagonals which we were doing against Millwall for the first 20 minutes. Seems be quite adaptable in terms of shape also.
Mixes his play up but looks to get the ball into his forward players quickly - thats what we were doing last season Likes to keep his wingers high up the pitch, n likes to get his players attacking the box in the final 3rd. Doing really well with Reims and really taken them forward He should only get better as a manager as well, comes across really well and the type of manager i would want us to take a risk on (all appts are a risk)
Less than Daniel Farke, Russell Martin and Carlos Corberan. I am simply pointing out that for 45 games is a worry, particularly with the expectations the club hierarchy seem to have. Just an opinion. Lets see.
He has a very good win ratio and his tactics and style have garnered admiration from pundits and writers. Reminds me a lot of Villas-Boas before he got his big break with Porto.
Good assessment. I admit to being hard to convince about the seeming obsession with young wonder coaches from the continent. I think some owners are being seduced by the prospect of another Pep or Klopp being unearthed. If it is Still, and I would be surprised, I hope he is as good as the budding reputation. For me though there would be better options out there if we perhaps broadened what seem to be our criteria.
Farke had 56 games with Dortmund B team before Norwich brought him in and went up and Corberan had a handful of games in Cyprus before Huddersfield brought him in and got to the playoff final in his second season. I get the reservations but everyone starts somewhere.
