I guess for large scale power generation like that article says, maybe it’s not a great solution. But me burning my compressed sawdust logs would seem to have minimal impact, seeing as they are a by product of the saw mill industry I dunno, feels sometimes like the ordinary folk are blamed for climate change, driving their car, using a wood burner, taking a flight etc. When the big corporate industries that spew out toxic ****e, pollute the oceans and contribute to environmental destruction are given a golden handshake by the puppets who have their pockets lined by lobbyists
I think you also have to take into account the overall impact of energy production/usage we’re all being told that electric cars are zero emissions and they may well be at the point of use, but that electricity is produced somewhere by some means, in a power plant with all of the associated infrastructure that goes with getting the power from the plant to the source. Then you have the issue of mining for cobalt, lithium etc to make the batteries in the first place. And most of that is farmed off to the 3rd world, where you have kids digging with their hands in dangerous open cast mines. Which in turn also add to environmental degradation and that’s before you’ve even taken into account actually building the electric car in the first place. Which requires more energy, infrastructure, man power, all of the associated transport costs and pollution from shipping etc and on it goes ironically, me driving my 15 year old 3.0 V6 diesel probably had less of an environmental impact than me going out and buying a new electric car
Which is exactly why the change to only new Electric Cars has been deferred for 5 years We are nowhere near ready to go fully green yet
This isn't to do with climate change but air pollution due to the particulates that burning wood produces .
does anyone expect the corporations to go green you’d be completely nuts if you do…..fully green no such thing unless we live like remote indigenous peoples that’s never been seen by a white man before
We only burn buffalo chips inside our teepee ... and regulate the heat retention via a hide flap at the apex ... honest Indian
so maybe you will recognise it’s also a natural occurrence that’s been going on millions of years and we can not reverse it……we also know that greed is man’s dirty need and now they want us to suffer and fix the problems that they caused fk em and their new money grab intentions….us humans need wiping out so nature can do what nature does like it has done since the dawn of time
Morning. Lovely walk down the coast. Birds are singing. Children are laughing. No team in the country and possibly world has more points than Queens Park Rangers this week.
Junior football off this morning, having a decent coffee before getting out the leaf blower and ****ing off all the oak leaves. Walk the dog on the beach, then off to see the Swans stink the place out again.
Brewery Christmas event this afternoon, brass band, choir and some other band. Wood Fired Pizza Co also in attendance.
I think the article Bobz posted talked about large scale wood burning power plants, which you would expect to have particulate capture or filters. A bit like the waste product power plants do. As for people burning wood at home, I guess it depends on the house. If you've got a new build, with air/ ground source heat pumps, solar, well insulated etc. Then sticking a wood burner in there is pretty much a vanity project. My house was built in 1860, from solid granite and it has one fireplace which is designed to heat the house. There's no mains gas where I live and most people use woodburners and a combo of those night storage heaters (which are crap) Or they have bottled gas. If Govt were serious about climate/pollution they'd pay to retro fit all of these old houses with air source pumps / solar panels. Yes it would cost £bns but we know they can pull that sort of money out of their arse when they want to. The schemes I've looked into just pay for loft insulation (if you're on benefits, which I'm not) and the 'Govt backed' solar schemes are just marketing bunk, as the solar companies all want £8k-£10k up front and 'perk' is that you can pay it for it over a billion years via the FIT scheme.
Company car tax mate. It’s set at 2% for the next two years. Diesel cars are up at 28%! My old 3 series would cost me £287 a month!
