Still think the trigger would have been pulled of the fan reaction wasn't so strong in the summer. I predict a new man in for Jan.
Think they know he isn't. They have gave it a bit more time to consolidate and continue development of our young players but it's regression now, and that won't cut the mustard.
I know he's been ill,but Mowbray sounds flat as **** on his interview. If that's the tone he takes with his team talks then no wonder we are so flat on the pitch
I can see us losing the next 3 games. 5 in a row and 8 defeats in 11 is enough for KLD to pull the trigger
I take your point but surely its relevant to Sunderland vs Ipswich. However unlikely you think it is/however likely I think it is. Surely it needs to happen sooner rather than later
I agree it's probably time tonight was so tactically inept for me. Folk are saying Hume was playing left back I thought it was 3 at the back first half with Hume as defensive midfield therefore effectively 6 in midfield with 2 wingers cutting in it was ridiculous how crowded it was and easy for Huddersfield to defend. 2nd half defo Hume left back and Seelt right back. They were the 2 getting the space but 1 was cutting in the same as Clarkes as he's right footed and the other although comfortable on the ball is not comfortable getting to the byline and creating something. Subs were pure desperation like for like with what seemed like no thought and mainly a downgrade on what was already on the pitch. We've developed a knack of being the better team but losing games and that's a recipe for a manager losing his job in my eyes.
I try to be optimistic and I recognise potential but tactically that was awful tonight. We have become ponderous, we have lost the zip we had attacking and the put on the lottery ticket of throw on all the subs,4 tonight is becoming a tad annoying. The next couple of games are critical to getting some confidence and momentum. We must have the worst conversion of shots to goals of any team at present. I admit to being really disappointed tonight.
Ipswich fans would say last time we won anything of note was in the early 70s while they were very successful in the 80s. I don’t think we’re as big a club to others as we appear to ourselves.
Lol. I thought I'd copy and pasted to RTG. It was only after posting I realised I was still here. Sorry
kept away for a wee while after the game and to try and calm down. i may be wrong but i saw onien at LB, ballard central, hume RB...seelt i was just not sure about as he kind of played central and ahead of the defence rather than part of it, he also turned up as a forward and across both sides (i do think he had a good game though), mayenda, from looking like a sure fire striker had much the same game as the three tried before him. have never heard the supporters get so annoyed and so vocal so early in a game but i can understand why, so slow and ponderous...i thought the early chance we offered huddersflied would start the lads up but they carried on the same, left-right-left-back-right-left-give it to jack, only 'searching balls' came from onien. towards the end of the game (i am missing the rest out as it has been mentioned loads) we had three lads stood on the 18 yard box and another waiting to run in and join them yet quick crosses did not come in, putting crosses in behind the defence would have given us more chance of goals than tappy lappy-give it to jack. the changes made were not what was needed or what fans have been asking for, watching onien tonight i still feel he is worth a try at CDM with his passing and as many have said, our wide boys are missing the lads running past them...basically, that would mean we have 4 'proper' lads in defence with onien in front of them, we can give jobe the couple of game break i think he needs, dan neil can be used further forward for his passing ability (although we have seen little of it lately) with pritchard leaving two of clarke/roberts/ba wide and choose a striker and stick with him...the rest can wait and get on as a sub or until injury or suspension leaves a place open then they either make the position their own or go back to waiting. this will not be a popular choice but it is mine, MotM goes to onien...for his goal, his passing and his work rate, and yes he had a couple of mistakes at the back but there really is no one else who seemed to try.
One positive is that Seelt looked like a good footballer, despite being played out of position, so he should be a decent ball playing CB. Pretty fast too. Good potential there.
In October and November we played 9 won 3 drew 1 and lost 5 gaining 10 points. The 3 wins were against Watford, Norwich and Birmingham, three pretty poor teams where we didn't exactly play well but won. The draw came against Swansea who had 10 men for 60 minutes. I honestly don't think we've put in a performance that matches our better performances from last season since Sheff Wed away, even then they were comfortably the worst team we've played this season. We've only beaten two sides that I would consider good teams, them being Southampton and Blakburn.
Couple of points, firstly I can't believe I've read posts about dropping Clarke. It's ridiculous - he's the only player likely to crate or score. The issue is that there are so options for him. Nobody overlapping so he has to cut inside and into the penalty area. Then there's nobody giving him the short option towards the near post, and by then he can't cross it. The only player I saw cine near post for him was Pritchard. Second point - and this was before tonight... Individually we've got players who would walk into most teams in the division. The fact that we're looking so poor comes down to Mowbray unfortunately.
Have to agree, it’s 100% not the squad that’s the issue however I’ve said it before - go and look at Ipswich’s squad and how many would you put in our team? Depending on how red and white your glasses are there’s probably 3 at a push, although some of our fans would say 0. Difference is they’re well drilled, playing in their natural positions and all know their roles. People think our midfield have the world at their feet, talking about demanding £30m for players yet Ipswich have Sam Morsy and Massimo Luongo bossing every game they play. Two bang average journeymen who’ve never played above the championship. That’s an indicator of how “good” our midfielders are playing in our system at the minute. Also Clarke has 9G 1A (4 penalties) — Broadhead 7G 1A (0 pens) and Conor Chaplin 7G 4A (0 pens) both actually playing their roles and feeding Hirst up top who has 5G 4A himself - are they both as much as Clarke?
I’m always an optimist… But there was nothing to be optimistic about thought we were doing ok second half until they scored. Then he changed 4 players, taking off Auchiche and Mayenda?? Wtf? I’m normally one to back Mowbray but he got it massively wrong tonight. I said it at the time of the subs too. Pritchard should’ve been on at half time ffs. It was crying out for him.
As for this ****ing offside free kick at the end, Christ what are we on. 94:40, pass it square to the keeper? Who then passes it short ten yards forward?? **** me, sometimes you wonder what these lads have between their ears. We probably wouldn’t have scored, but at least if you pile it down for “one last hurrah”, you have a chance!
What has happened to the fast, slick passing game? It takes us an age to work our way to the oppositions penalty area. The same players; different product. And why, when theres a shooting chance, do we have to take a first touch? Has all the praise gone to their heads? Or maybe we need a new blueprint. Clarke is being stifled, to an extent, and Robert’s doesn’t look the same player this season. It is usually accepted that new forwards need time to settle, yet we change them more often than a weather map. O.K., shoot me out of the water. I’ve had my little rant. But at the start of this season I expected safc to be regular top four, not struggling to get into the top six. Ah well. As the man said, it’s where we are at the end of the season that counts. Or so I keep telling myself.
