Absolutely, but that also can't become the expectation. Teams aren't as poor as Rotherham and we won't always have the bounce of the ball go our way as it did today. Watford will be a stern test, and at the end of the day we just need to keep the points rolling in. This sort of performance is heartening as it's the answer to all those "On another day we score ..." comments we've thrown up in other match threads (and even then we could have scored more today!) but it shouldn't become a stick to beat the team with when they don't batter sides on a weekly basis. What this does need to do though is give us the confidence to take it to Watford and get the three points.
1 against Watford and 3 at the Drama' s will still represent solid playoff form over the 4 games. Remember that too.
What Lokilo brings, that Rosie loves (IMO anyway) is the control, he rarely loses the ball, finds the right passes most of the time, whilst he’s not as dynamic as Philo he still makes space for others in the way he draws 2 players to him and then can still find the right pass
Not sure thats what we signed him for - his spell in Turkiye was more impactful than that, but he has potential, he's doing fine and yeah. Looking after the ball, creating space and using it is gonna be more of a priority in Rosenior’s system than scything an opponent down outside or own box. That and mobility. Which he has in abundance. As an aside. Mags a bit unlucky tonight no? Gonna be few sick Geordies in work tomorrow lol!
Agreed he probably wasn’t brought in for that, but when you play our style you can’t have too many high risk players in the starting 11. Think Man City for example, Grealish v Doku.
Yeah. You need two or three cherries in a solid cake. More than that and the mix falls apart. I know there's been much debate about Honeyman leaving and lack of a Smallwood type, but progressively we're seeing a different means to the same end under Rosenior.
What a pleasure not to be watch with your heart in your mouth most of the game. I really enjoyed the performance, and as already mentioned the ref added pleasure to the watch with her very good performance. Even though Rotherham are in a lowly position, they managed to draw with both TWS & Ipswich which is no mean feat, and we made them looked poor. Philogene & Morton were the standout performances, really the quality of these 2 is outstanding, but there were no poor performances throughout the team. Special mentions to Lokilo who was very good and bring balance to the team, good to see Twine get his goal, but the power of that shot from Delap nearly broke Johansson in half, he won't have had to deal with many shots that hard in his career. Delap was unfortunate not to score himself, but he is a nightmare for defenders. Alfie Jones just quietly gets better and better and Greaves had a very good game, a pity he could finish off his mazy run. Great to see Regan back in action, and I thought he looked sharp when he came on, another plus on the night. So finally we put a team to the sword, but as Liam said in his post match interview we need to back it up Saturday with another good performance against Watford. Onwards and upwards, so far so good.
It's all about making the pitch as wide as possible at the business end, and as long as possible when we draw their press... It's not difficult lt to understand. It's about stretching the 'active' field and creating as much space as possible to get on the ball. Nuts and bolts of it is that simple. It ain't witchraft.
Which he must owe a debt of gratitude to Morton for. If Morton hadn't followed up and scored it gave the ref a decision to make on what appears a stonewall penalty and would surely have lead to a red card as well, after 4 minutes
Stonewall pen? He grabs the ball in both hands and it then comes loose because Delap falls into him. If anything it's a foul by Delap on the keeper but is more a 50/50 which was let go. If it was a penalty it wouldn't be a red card as they got rid of double jeopardy years ago.
After his first game some on here were quick to have go at him for not passing that big lump of a back of Wednesday . He has v good close control , keeps possession shame about his end product occasionally but he occupies two opposition players . He’s not scared of a tackle either , he’s a decent player .
Weird night last night - great result but the early lead seemed to kill the atmosphere. Maybe the poor away support didn’t help, not much banter opportunity. I think getting nearly 19k attendance on a cold November night against bottom of the league opposition when we’re on the telly and it’s the Bake Off final is pretty good going and I hope someone has explained all of that to Acun. The Rotherham goal was the only disappointing part - I think our goal difference is going to be important towards the end of the season so getting complacent wasn’t great. But fair play to them that generally they stayed on their feet and didn’t resort to hacking lumps out of City. And credit to Eaves for dealing with the affectionate piss taking and clapping all stands at the end. “You’re just a **** Erling Haaland” indeed. Nice to have a competent ref for a change, although she didn’t have a great deal to do to be fair. I think the quote is that women have to be twice as good as men to be considered half as good.
Wish I’d watched the footy to be honest. For a final the cakes were ****e, Matt’s was on the piss and he still won it. Was very disappointed.
Thought Christie had a great game too. It was a joy to watch tactically; Christie tucked in next to Seri which free'd and pushed Morton up the right which gave him a massive impact on the game. Great to see that as well as depth on the right theres a tactical change there too.
