Its a super majority and was probably put in place many many years ago to protect the rest of the league form a real/barca type scenario. I would say thats its relatively unusual and was the smaller clubs seeking to stop big clubs sneaking stuff in. It is now a receipt for the status quo being protected with little to no changes possible that don't suit everyone. I sincerely doubt that if a super league came about the small clubs could again threaten a vote of expulsion on the 7 clubs.
Thanks for the explanation. It just seems to me that when something important is being voted on (obviously in context here, relative to integrity of the league and not 'important' as in a wider life changing matter) that only requiring 7 clubs, 3 of which have only been involved for 12 games, to set the outcome, is madness.
in the end the league is 20 members and membership papers are drawn up every year when 3 are turfed out and 3 are allowed in. in effect the 3 clubs promoted resign from the football league and join the premier league which is a separate entity. they have equal voting rights as thsts how it was set up. if someone tried at the outset to give clubs like man utd double votes there would have been an outcry. they even had to set up as a 22 team league initially due to the resistance to it forming and only went to 20 after a short while. I'm convinced they will turf more out and bring in play offs for relegation spots etc to really try preserve the in crowd.
Should be 16. 2 up, 2 down, only top of the Championship guaranteed to go up. Then we could have a bigger upper and lower European CL/Uefa.
I think I was more bemused by the way Sheffield Utd voted, newly into the PL and voting for 'the other side'. Solid's explanation about their owner makes it make a bit more sense. Strange to think that they will likely be relegated and may not come back up and yet had this kind of impact on the league
Well no. cos I wand sheff utd relegated and bankrupted now. they are a pseudo saudi owned piece of crap.
I'm in an increasingly dwindling minority I suppose, but to me the Premier League is still the premier competition. I don't want to see fewer league games in order to accommodate a bloated European calendar.
Wait until they have enough clubs in the PL to over power the '14 votes' rule. First thing they'll do is lower that 14 It won't just be about multiple ownership at that point either. All the yank owned clubs want a Super League so they'll be up for lowering the vote toll too
and we started with 22 due to the resistance to any changes (club self interest) This is why these smaller clubs need to wake up before they find the government and fa have allowed Saudi by 4 or 5 clubs, buy their way into the prem and all vote as a block. these turkeys have voted for Christmas here. They'll find themselves pushed out to feed on scraps before long. there is no depths the saudi's will go to to build whatever they are thinking they are building. They will destroy the prem to do it if thats what it takes.
which is why HR depts and rules exist to stop meglomanics like you form ruining things The elon musk of the charity world, thats what you are mate.
