I read about this earlier this week, 113 miles in 4 days I think it said. Initial thought was that it isn't actually that far, you could almost walk it. Too harsh?
It's 115 miles and he hasn't exactly picked the easiest route, he ran through the Peak District today. Doing a good job, almost £1.9m raised so far.
Depends on his background in running really. I'm an ultra runner and have frequently covered that sort of distance in a lot less time so this wouldn't be too much of a challenge but if you're taking the step up from marathons then this is a serious undertaking. I'm sure he'll be walking a lot of it but you also have to factor time in for eating, recovery etc. It's not just about the pace you're moving at - the cumulative effect of that sort of mileage can do a lot of damage to the body if you've not built up gradually. I hope he makes it, my only gripe with the whole thing is calling it an 'ultra ultramarathon', who the hell coined that phrase?
I didn't quite get the ultra ultra bit either. As you say it does depend on what sort of shape he's in to start with, seems like it might not be that great... Good on him for having a go though.
When anyone on my work crew asks for sponsorship for a charity marathon, they now get paid a daily sponsorship rate instead not to talk about their training, their diet, their pain or their injuries. Hearing about it daily for three months is intolerable. Would have thought Jimmy Saville killed off the trend for the celebrity DJ charity marathon.
