Watched the first part of The Reckoning last night, the BBC drama series exposing Jimmy Savile's evil 50 years too late. Some discussion as to whether this subject is appropriate for a drama series, but the acting performance by Steve Coogan as Savile is nothing short of superb. Coogan is known for his ability as an impressionist, but this is so much more than an impersonation of Savile. He really seems to become Savile and conveys his creepy evil brilliantly. Genius.
Seen the first 2 parts and agree about Coogan, he exudes menace in the part. Its a story that should be told , the same as The Woman In The Wall series I watched. Its uncomfortable viewing and the BBC have definitely got off lightly in it imo, the testimony from some victims at the start of each episode, just goes to highlight how many people in high positions turned a blind eye to what was happening !

Wasn’t disparaging the programme @Stroller, I simply can’t stand the idea of watching it. In the seventies my Mum demanded that the channel be changed whenever Savile appeared, on the grounds that “ he’s obviously a bad’un”. Perceptive woman and it was passed on to me - even in total ignorance of his disgusting behaviour he gave me the creeps enough to never watch him. I don’t want change the habit.
I can quite believe Coogan is amazing at it. He was great in Philomena.

Anyone else see Bali, about the terrorist atrocities in 2002 ? Very well acted and moving account, by Australian tv, Richard Roxburgh again showing what a quality actor he is !

Actually taking a break in Cornwall for a week, which started with a birthday excursion to Edie’s Restaurant near St. Austell - highly recommended and definitely lived up to its reputation.
Completely casual feel, incredible service and the food was stunning. A well made Old Fashioned kicked the night off followed by their (now) legendary double baked cheese soufflé with leeks, white onion sauce and chive oil was a delight. Followed by John Dory with champ potato, savoy cabbage, vadouvan sauce and crab mayo accompanied by a rich glass of Folle Nero was sumptuous. Another Folle Nero, then all topped off with an amazing Plum souffle, cinnamon crème anglaise and vanilla ice cream (with birthday candle
) which was sumptuous.
Highly recommended if you ever head down to Cornwall - full off Michelin restaurants but this “Michelin Recommended” was superb value amongst them with a lovely ambience and staff that never rushed you. Well worth the 40 minute drive for a relaxing celebration!

I’ve read a bit about this programme and recent stuff on young Pete. Seems like he’s beating some of his demons, but has a whole bunch more to deal with. Good luck Pete.
Pete definitely looks like he's off the gear - he's the size of a house.
Saw him live last year, he's still got the charisma he had back with Babyshambles and Libertines, but it was a much mellower gig than those days. Married life and parenthood definately put him back on the right path, plus living in France.
Tried to get tickets today for a Libertines tour of small venues next year - demand so high it crashed the website and it sold out before I could get back on...gutted.
The Libertines have a hotel in Margate - we had a few beers there in the summer. I think they also sponsor Margate FC.

You should have heard the whooping in my house earlier today when my daughter phoned my wife to say she had got two tickets for one of Taylor Swift’s additional Wembley stadium gigs next August, presumably by ignoring her work and hanging around online for hours. The appeal is beyond me, especially at £175 a ticket. But it’s made them very happy.
Apparently Pete has beaten the food challenge breakfast at his local Margate cafe on more than one occasion.
