Completely disagree with this. If you aren't allowed to express your opinions, positive or negative, then this place just becomes an echo chamber and ignorant of issues. I disagree with WorkyTicket on O'Nien however his opinions are very valid. A forum moderator should not be telling people what opinions are allowed and which aren't. If this is going to continue you can remove my account.

No I’m saying using that one metric at such an early stage of the season is idiotic when it changes every week. You wouldn’t say Spurs are the best team in the PL because they were top for a few weeks would you?

If a team goes forward against you twice all game and scores twice I’d argue that the defence was poor. Having nothing to do all game then conceding at the first given opportunity isn’t great is all I’m saying. Nothing will change anyway I don’t know why we’re bickering, he’ll continue to make mistakes and cost us goals it’s just whether or not we can get a striker firing to outscore out opponents.

For the record I’m not saying it’s just O’niens fault either I think our lack of DM isn’t helping.

Good point marra, Worky takes his time to post and we need more inputs to form a consensus of how well things are progressing.

Haway, Sour Patch, I didn't say that opinions aren't allowed . . . . I said that I didn't understand the negativity when we've got so much to be positive about.
His, and yours, are 100% valid and should continue <hug>

When that comes from a forum moderator that is essentially saying them opinions aren't allowed. His opinions aren't even that bad compared to some of the stuff you allow to go unnoticed on here.

I’m pessimistic as f**k I’m always glass half full so I understand I’ll disagree with people who are the opposite and see the good in everything we do. I wish I could be more like that to be fair I just want us to be the best we can be so I’ll voice my opinion if I think there’s ways to do that so I get it if I come across as arsey as times :emoticon-0102-bigsm

I’ve never looked into that to be honest mate, they might well do but speaking from watching Arsenal I’ve never seen Saliba playing in the final third. All defenders of teams who are good on the ball with have loads of progressive passes etc because they spent all game passing into the midfield and O’nien is very good at that but then he goes on a wander and when we lose the ball he’s HIGH up the pitch.. I remember when we lost to Rotherham last season he was practically in their box when we lost the ball and they broke and scored.

But back to Saliba - he’s also 6’4, rapid and great defensively. You’d fancy him 1v1 against pretty much anyone. If someone put a ball over the top he’s got more than enough pace to contest it. So the comparison ends pretty quickly that’s the point I’m trying to make we need someone who does both.

Whether I rate him or not I’d never start shouting abuse at one of our players or chanting for someone to replace him after conceding a goal. I’d always get behind the lads no matter who’s on the pitch and after traipsing around the country in L1 watching some of that sh*t I know we’re in a much better place but that’s not to say we can’t still improve - so to say I’m not supportive of one of our players for having an opinion is a bit daft.

Yeah it's a fair point. Personally I get sick of people making the same criticisms of the same people over and over again like they haven't already said it many times before, to the point it's nothing more than a mood hoover and a downer on match threads.

However on the flip side I believe we should all be honest and if that means criticisms then so be it. Be weird talking about the game without them.

Now that's what I call an overreaction <laugh>

All he said was that he didn't understand something man ...

... surely you're not saying he shouldn't be allowed to express his opinions, positive or negative.

I totally agree mate and really have a question for other supporters out there.
i am generally a more optimistic supporter and i know that some are more pessimistic but if you are really honest with yourself when you look at the league table and the results on a matchday do you
    1. look at the teams above us to see if we can catch them
    2. look at teams around us to make sure we are still in the mix
    3. look at teams below us to see who is closing in on us
I for one find myself looking at the top 2 or 3 to see if they are still within reach and do not find myself concerned with what is below us, obviously that can change as the season progresses but I think it is a good sign that I initially look to the top as I have spent the last few years more in hope than expectation and find the expectation now refreshing albeit needing to understand patience with it.
I think as a club we are heading in the right direction and probably faster than what was planned for hence a few of the off field problems but I am proud of what the club has achieved in a short period of time and like I said earlier its great to be looking at the top and not looking to see who is chasing us.

You realise that Gordon and Myself, as forum “moderators”, are fans. This is how we post. Why you bring up moderation in your post, when it is completely irrelevant, is beyond me.

We post passion about a club we love, we are positive people. We look fir the positives. Me probably more than some others. But we are fans. We only post as moderators when we need to.

Gordon also only gave an opinion, not, at any point, telling anyone what they should or shouldn’t post or can or cannot post. And I agree wholeheartedly. We are on a very positive keel at the moment, yet some posters will literally look to find negative in a 5-0 win.

If you are one of them, then you will get an argument with me, it’s a debate, and I will have a go, but I will not use any moderation methods or tell you what you can or can’t post. Neither will Gordon

It's sometimes so repetitive and predictable that it's really annoying.

'Great win, 5-0 and lots of scorers'

'Yes but the club failed to bring in a defensive midfield player'.

'Another three points, Aouchiche gets his first goal and that's three games unbeaten.'

'Yes but we looked weak at set pieces in the games before those three'

    '
40,000 again, our style of football really seems to be bringing the crowds in.'

'Yes but we're a selling club and will struggle if we lose Clarke, Roberts and Ballard.'

If Luke ONien sees out his current contract with us it will be 9 years as a player here. To date he has played over 220 games for us and I bet less than a third have been as midfield player. He has been developed into a defender for us and arguably played his best football last season. I suspect when the club gave him his contract this time around it was with defence in mind. People can have opinions all day long about players for me, not a problem. But we should stay away from thinking he is a midfielder out of position now.

If he is still first choice in a year or two I would be suprised. I do think Seelt has been bought as a future first choice cente back. Whether I would keep him in now, after 1 game, I am not so sure. I would go back to ONien and Ballard personally, but let them both know Seelt is pushing them hard for a spot. Everytime ONien has been challenged in his career with us he has stood up. His place is under threat by the new lad, lets see if he can step up again. I reckon he has done nothing to lose the shirt and deserves the chance to defend it now we have someone who looks not far off being ready to play 1st team.
