We miss Corry Evans in there big time, if he’s fit come January I can see him going straight back in. He’s still the captain aswell so could lead to us leaving O’nien out as he won’t have that responsibility

He wasn't like. Nectar screwed his interception up and CDM didn't track the player arriving into he box. Seelt was marking the space. Could argue he maybe could have steped across quicker but there was a load of space in and around and a CDM should have tracked.

Makes no odds what people think anyway the team doesn’t change unless someone is injured or suspended.

Sorry but I think he's more than capable of sitting in front of the back four tidying up and allowing the young kids to terrorise the opposition.
His long range passing is good and if he's not given a role at dead ball situations where he's prone to a bit of wrestling then that's fine by me.
He doesn't deserve to be benched after losing his place due to suspension.

100% sure that if it was O'Nien stood still watching them score instead of Seelt he gets the blame for it.

Nah not with that like. The CDM of our team should be tracking their midfielder into he box. He just ghosted in. No chance for me.

Seelt was very very good yday.

We only miss Evans because we have no real alternative, both Neil and Ekwah have yet to fully convince as defensive midfielders but are brilliant attacking options who can at a push defend , O/9 is the only answer in the present squad , without trying to fit square pegs into round holes. Seelt and O/9 are too good to be left out at present., as for Evans he may never return, as with Pritch and Dack, time is not on their side.. I may well be wrong but its how I see it .

Yeah the lack of proper CDM is a strange one and was surprised when we didn't go to the market and get one in the summer window.

You have to be cautious with Evans and who knows, he may not come back the same player. Some injury. I don't think Mowbray fancies Matetee either.

Thought Ekwah was poor yday. Definitely off it. Slowed it down, turned over the ball and people just ran off him.

In the space of five minutes both Ekwah and Neil needlessly gave the ball away in really dangerous positions. I don't think Evans would've given the ball away so cheaply, sometimes our young players just lose concentration and want way too long on the ball.

It's that eternal conundrum, for young lads, between confidence and concentration ...

... it's great looking relaxed on the ball but sometimes a short sharp pass is better.

Evans can look limited because that's a big part of his game but it doesn't terrify me as it sometimes did yesterday.

i get where your coming from and agree with almost everything you say, but I have to admit, although it sticks in the throat, that Brummies goal was a very good one the speed of which caught three or four players flat footed and out of position.
PS I was replying to Prehab but it could be applied to both the posts immediately above.

Evans is a steady head who often picks the sensible pass rather than the spectacular. Does his job very well and makes it look easy.

TBH, once I saw how new our backline was, I was prepared to accept a couple of goals against ...

... but they were better than I'd hoped tbh.

We really do have a good squad developing and a much better manager than Rooney. He sounds clueless and couldn't inspire me to drink beer ...

... I honestly don't think he's in the right job and is only doing it because he'd be even worse as a erm pundit.

Exactly, tactics are not TM's strong point no matter what he says in interviews, the first substitution yesterday was a strange one to say the least, but the later changes were spot on, swings and roundabouts. <ok>

Morning after thoughts from me. I think it was quite an attritional win, but at times we looked very good again. I am going to give Brum some credit, they clearly have a high intensity game plan and once they found their feet in the first half they pushed us all over the park. Maybe the most hard working team I have seen yet in terms of pressing all over and trying to win individual battles. We did well to play through that but at times I was disappointed in the long ball choice.

I thought our midfield were a bit off the pace yesterday. Neil and Ekwah both, but for Ekwah got caught several times. He is a lad that can be a bit tardy at times, despite all the talent. I thought second half Neil sat in more to make it a 2 and at least we closed some of the space, even if we still struggled to dictate the game with our passing through the middle.

I thought Rusyn was tremendous. I was desperate to sign him in the summer and for the first time yesterday we saw glimpses of real talent. Not only that but a workrate to match. His pressing from the front is a natural, not a coached, trait. His assist was class as well by the way, undefendable.

Mayenda looked a beast to me. Sanderson tried to rough him up early but couldnt get round him. His back to goal hold up play showed how strong he is, and then we he gets turned players are terrified to tackle him. His run and shot I am thinking why are you backing off him, but then it is the way he is shifting his upper body, quality. Burstow too showed in 10 mins a poachers threat - still think there is a very good player there personally.

Huggins was MoM for me, head and shoulders actually. Everything from goal line clearances to carrying the ball for 60 yards. He seemed to win every ball down his side and was brilliant at covering the centre backs who were adapting to a pretty tough debut.

On the centre backs I was maybe a bit harsh on Triantis seeing it was his debut and was perhaps mentally thrown in the deep end. He still looks some way off ready on that performance though. It was scary at times the distances between him and other defenders. Brave for the goal though, and at timee with his head. Not as sold as others on Seelt just yet. It was decent enough as a debut. I think he is next in line for CB and he comes from a very good background in Dutch football. I daw enough to think he will be a good player for us, but at the same time I saw him struggle a bit in open play and with some slowish reactions. Plenty of time on his side though and if ONien or Ballard is injured he steps in no bother, or indeed if there form is dicey.

Lastly loved seeing Jobe with the Brum kitman at the end. Shows how much respect for his upbringing he has - a class lad.

All in all a good result, with some real positives, against a team I think will become quite decent again second half of the season. I saw a lot of Rooneys coaching at Derby and I think he is better than maybe some do. I wouldnt be surprised at all if they are in for a huge amount of fitness work over the next 2 weeks down there so that they can go for 90 minutes with the high intensity game and in the 2 full backs he has the players to play a style he will want to. Time will tell and I might be wrong.

I guess the positive here is that we are talking about whether to drop O’Nien and isn’t as much of a no brainer as it might have been. Shows how strong a position we are in versus what we had worried about in the summer with Batth going

    It’s a bizarre on the O’Nien stuff.

I love the lad as much as the next man because of his character and what he brings to the club, more than the side.

He isn’t a CB. Seelt is, and you’d think one with a much higher ceiling.

I liked Luke as a RB and I could see a place as a holding midfielder ( he never did enough going forward, but loves a tackle and carries the ball well)

Look at it this way, I doubt any club in the top 2 divisions would look to buy LON as a CB. He is more capable in midfield than people give credit for sometimes IF it’s the right role.

The fact he's 33 and we are still reliant on him in the holding role says it all though.
