Whether you like him or not - and I like him - he's the most influential UK politician since Thatcher and Blair
I’d enjoy a pint with him more than one with Sunak or Starmer… although to be fair I’d have enjoyed one with Tony Benn too.
Well, I listened to all 12 minutes of that. He might be right, he certainly is lucky that he has a platform which pays him to share his views with us (and relentlessly promote his book), but he comes across as both a supremely punchable smug git and as a conspiracy theorist himself. I know we disagree on this bloke Strolls, but everything you post of him just entrenches my view I’m afraid. Everybody with half a brain knows what Suella Braverman is, and some applaud her for it. She doesn’t try and hide it, quite the reverse. Her (alleged, no evidence provided) mentor spends his time writing letters moaning about the National Trust and museums. Terrifying. The phrase ‘cultural Marxism’ is of course meaningless in itself. Literally, it has no meaning, no frame of reference. It might well be used by certain people to invoke an anti semitic conspiracy theory without using the words ‘I hate Jews’. It certainly seems that (some? All?) Jews interpret the phrase as anti semitic. Should the phrase then be banned? I’m sick of all these people, of whatever ideological stance, these self appointed talking heads and third rate politicians. They are part of the problem. Yes you James O’Brien, you are part of the problem. Oh, and on Braverman - she might actually believe the bile she spews out. She certainly thinks that spewing it out will make her popular and give her a chance of becoming Prime Minister one day. Let’s hope she’s wrong. I must have got out of bed on the wrong side this morning….. You Rs!
Both together would be fascinating. They would have agreed about one thing - leaving the EU. Strange how the Brexit politicians are interesting, and the Remainers are as fun as trainspotters with a new anorak
What a fecking farce. So her 'bonuses' would have been more than triple her salary? I always thought a bonus was a 'little extra' for doing something well. Silly me. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-67377140
It's sick, but presumably that's the international banking market. Gigantic rewards for failure can never be justified
Pretty common at her level in most industries. Banking more than most admittedly but in the faceless multinational I worked at until recently it was over 100% in a good year for directors. 20% or so for we plebs.
OK, it seems we'll have to agree to differ on O'Brien - I happen to think he's the best broadcaster on British talk radio. I posted this because it's relevant to the Braverman discussion. Admittedly the last couple of minutes would probably have been sufficient, but what he said about how dangerous Braverman and the people who support her are is spot on. Of course 'cultural Marxism' doesn't exist, but it's a useful colourful dog-whistle phrase for those on the far right (it was taken up by Anders Breivik). It seems to me to be more often lazily used in relation to the (also mythical) 'woke agenda' that so many get worked up about than in anti-Semitic terms. You can't 'self appoint' 1.5 million listeners, by the way. I'm looking forward to getting O'Brien's latest book (did he mention the title?) - I'll buy you a copy for Christmas.
