I think the Botanic's Irish tour has just been cancelled, good luck trying to get a refund on the Ryanair flights to Dublin.
Acun's going to save a good few bob on landing fees and Jet A-1 fuel for his Biz jet having to slepp over to Dublin and back.
Whole situation is weird. Don’t blame Shelbourne fans for feeling pissed off. If we were in their position and Acun was also the owner of say, Fenerbahçe, we’d be asking the same questions. Not a fan of multi-club ownership. One or several clubs are always treated as means to another club’s ends.
I'm not a fan either, just to much potential for mess and complications as we are now seeing. Hopefully it's all delt with quickly and quietly.
Utterly bizarre stuff. As someone said, they would have known what they were getting into, and my understanding was Acun wasn't even sacking Duff, he was just waiting to see if they'd be in Europe or not.
There was talk of potential investments and partnerships beyond shelbourne at the time he bought them. I wonder if something more advantageous has appeared on the radar. Or maybe there's just differing ideas between him, duff and their board.
Acun also left Fortuna Sittard due to disagreements with the other shareholders about the direction of the club. Strikes me as the type of business owner who is willing to listen to others and take into consideration their views but ultimately doesn’t want to be answerable to anyone else if he can help it. Was only a minority stakeholder at Fortuna Sittard.
Think also he only became a 60% shareholder at Shels after a 3m multi-year investment programme with various clauses - including a roll-back one anyway. So I very much doubt he's walking away from 3m euros.
I get the feeling Damien Duff is rather too outspoken for Acun liking. It's as if the manager is bigger than the club, which is a dangerous position to get in. I can't help feeling they will regret pushing Acun aside. Liam clearly is far more intelligent than Duff, and learnt very quickly how best to create a good working relationship with Acun and Tan, whereas Duff seems to be confrontational and sees himself in a position whereby he feels he can dictate matters. If this is the case, he is putting himself on a pedestal, and we all know in Football a few bad results and he can soon get knocked off it. P.S. I saw on X that Acun is looking at A Greek club to become involved with.
