Forgot about that rule, that’s a shame actually if it means he couldn’t get a chance.

I've said before but I can't ever remember us having a young keeper actually make it in my time as a fan. We've always had at least one on the books, but they've always been released after making at most a cursory appearance or two in the first team. With Cartwright particularly it looked at one point like that might change, but it seems the tradition will continue.

I guess we will have to wait and see, Cartwright has been unlucky with injury which has probably stunted his development, I guess it will largely down to Barry Richardson and whether he feels he has what it takes.

    - Harry Wood and Will Jarvis both played 91 minutes in their last games for Shelbourne in their 4-2 win over Drogheda Utd. Jarvis got a goal and Wood got an assist. Shelbourne missed out on a spot in the Conference League by 2 points as St. Patrick's claimed 3rd

    - Olly Green played the full game in York's 0-0 draw with Chester

    - Tom Nixon played 89 minutes in Doncaster's 2-2 draw with Accrington

    - Callum Jones played 90 minutes in Forest Green's 1-1 draw with Scarborough

    - Ryan Longman came on in the 64th minute in Millwall's 1-0 loss to Southampton

    - Jim Simms came on in the 65th minute in Darlington's 2-1 win over Farsley

Speaking of Farlsey, anyone know if Jack Leckie is injured? He hasn't been involved in the last 7 matchday squads

Doesn't 4th spot get them into the conference, the media are reporting they have qualified for Europe?

Every single young keeper is the best and a future England international probably even if they aren’t English

Jones did nowt for 90 minutes apart from one shot that just went over the bar
Very disappointed in him as I rated him a few years ago
FG looked a really really poor side,

Just the top 3 and Cup Winner but if the Cup Winner is in the top 3, 4th gets a place.

St Patrick's in 3rd are playing Bohemiams (6th) in the Cup so fingers crossed Shelbourne could go through to Europe.

The key in Shelbourne's last match was to secure 4th so they had a chance.

He wasn't included in the squad, but looks like Yuriel Celi's time with Universitario is done after they won the Peruvian League Grand Final last night. To say his loan there was underwhelming is an understatement

Seen a few people getting excited about him joining the first team in January. Seems unlikely to me, and I don't know what evidence there is to suggest he'd be an exciting addition even if he did.

Celi ended up with one start and nine sub appearances, not too encouraging, though it's probably not easy to get into a league winning team.

He's managed a full international appearance for Peru, albeit only a 14 minute substitution in a friendly.

I just find the whole situation a bit odd.

    TWT I suppose.

Steve Wilson is the only one that comes to mind for me, not including Roy Carroll & another kid we signed after him from another team, might have been Irish too?

It's taken him a while to get in the team, but he's started the last three games, so hopefully he'll get a bit of a run now.

Mike Williams was a hero of mine at the time.

Young goalkeeper Michael John Williams was born in Hull during the latter stages of World War Two and played for Hull Schoolboys as a youngster in the late 1950s. Amidst much interest from other clubs Williams signed amateur terms for Hull City in June 1960 then apprentice professional terms three months later, all before his 16th birthday. He served his time in the youth and reserves sides for two years then in September 1962 injuries to first choice keeper Bernard Fisher and Mick Grainger saw Williams thrust into the first team six weeks before his eighteen birthday. He thrived despite his tender years and was handed his first full professional contract when he turned eighteen, keeping his first team place for the remainder of the 1962/63 season – much to the annoyance of Fisher, who quickly handed in a transfer request.

After 53 consecutive first team starts between September 1962 and September 1963 Williams dropped out of the first XI in favour of newly-signed Irish international keeper Maurice Swan. Mike returned for ten games between December 1963 and February 1964 but Swan was soon reinstated. Despite this setback Williams remained patient and was back in the side for one game a fortnight after his 20th birthday in November 1964. A month later Swan suffered an injury and Willams started the remaining 24 senior fixtures of the season.

Mike kept his first team place at the start of the 1965/66 season as a promotion campaign began to take shape. However in October 1966 a cut hand saw Williams drop out of the first team to be replaced by Swan, and the Irishman kept his place for the rest of the season and became a famous Hull City figure for his role in the 1965/66 Division Three title winning side. Williams left the Tigers in July 1966.

Mike joined Aldershot when he left Hull City but in two seasons he was unable to make any first team starts. In July 1968 he switched to Fourth Division Cumbrian side Workington, where he was reserve goalkeeper and made 15 starts in two seasons. He returned north to sign for Scunthorpe United in July 1970, making only one start in his first two years at the Old Show Ground before making 25 appearances in the 1972/73 season as the Iron suffered an immediate relegation back to the Fourth Division. Mike made 7 starts for Scunthorpe in the 1973/74 season, taking his tally over four years to 33 appearances before leaving the club in June 1974.

Williams saw out his career at Scarborough and Bridlington Trinity, by the late 1970s he was working for BP Chemicals in Hull. He held that job for over 35 years before retiring in 2014 to his Willerby home.
