Right guys, some were saying it was over-used, and I think it is. Steve has said so this morning! He has Tweeted: "Morning! To be fair, I do like my chant, BUT it is a bit much everytime I touch the ball though..." And then in reply to a few fans: When asked "does it put you off?": "no not really, but I tink a chant has to stay original and surprising, no?" And when told the chant is amazing he says: "yeah it is, when I come on, or do something nice or score! Not when I make a one-two....;-)" Have to say I agree with him. If he roasts someone or comes on/goes off as a sub, or scores a goal it should be done, it's a bit much every time he touches it. Thoughts? Steve's Twitter: http://twitter.com/#!/stief87
I agree but it was only a bit of fun yesterday. The game was over Saints were passing the ball around at will. The crowd were just having a laugh.
Still think we should use this:
Let's be honest as tomw said the crowd were so hyped up yesterday it was all good natured fun, some of the passing after they went down to 10 yesterday was incredible, just retain the ball, must be so frustrating, much like we do alot at the moment. WE ARE SOUTHAMPTON WE'RE TAKING THE P***
I do cringe when everyone shouts 'STEEEVE' everytime he touches the ball. I think it's a good chant but maybe we should sing the other song a bit more as well?
If he likes it then we should still sing it. But not every time he touches the ball!! Otherwise it does get pretty stupid
i did hear the top of northam block 40 and a bit of the kingsland getting a SDR song going but didnt really hear it clear enough. it might of been shoot the runner but i dont really know.
It was funny in the motorway services coming back from the Coventry game to hear random Steveee shouts. Like any new chant it will get used a lot to begin with and will naturally settle. It's just that his last couple of home sub appearances have been in matches which were already effectively over as a contest. The away fans are silenced and the saints are playing keep ball so we have to entertain ourselves some how
i agree with him, every touch is useless and boring but good when he does something superb or scores a goal and even coming off the bench
I thought the repetition was the joke? But it is sliightly taking the piss, which is what he's getting at.
How about: Steven de Ridder, do do do do, steve de ridder Steven de Ridder, do do do do, steve de ridder Steven de Ridder, de ridder, de ridder do do do do. To the tune of BN BN (Biscuits!)
It is exactly as SaintlyHero puts it, when he comes on we have effectively won the match so we are just amusing ourselves whilst Saints play keep ball. I can see if he starts a match and everybody is shouting his name from the get-go it could become tiresome. For now I am happy to shout Steeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeevvvvvvvvveeeeeeee.
