We can’t feel hard done by at all. Destiny was lucky he didn’t get a red for the first one and even if I think he was a little unlucky with the second yellow, like Jota against us, you can’t let the ref make that decision. Romero was lucky to be on the pitch when he gave away the pen and after that and the first Destiny card we badly needed someone to grab the game for us and just calm it down. Slow everything down for 5 mins or so and just take the sting out of it. We did the opposite. We had them toasted 11v11 and I don’t think it’s a controversial view that we’d have very likely won the game. But we failed to control ourselves and lost because of it. What Ange does next will be interesting. Both short term (I suspect it’ll be Dier and one of Phillips or Dorrington for the next game - I really like the latter) and long term, because while he’s spoken glowingly about Romero recently, he’s shown that he can still be a complete liability. Any news on VdV? Guessing it’s too soon.
Low grade hamstring injuries can heal within several days to 1-2 weeks, which will then see them return to sport/activities. Larger injuries can take between 2 and 6 weeks for players to return to sport. OR please log in to view this image Some very mild hamstring strains can resolve within a few days. But most injuries take weeks or months of recovery time to fully heal. In some cases, recovery could take as long as a year.
The sky interview with Ange was fantastic. Refused to stick the boot in on officials. Said VAR is now forensically analysing games, undermining referees and breaking up the flow of play. Said he wasn't going to criticise the decisions. Said that we will always give it a crack at winning a game so the high line stays while he is our manager even if we were down to five. We have an identity and its one we've been screaming out for. In a bizarre way I think that we have learned more about our team, weaknesses and strengths than Chelsea have tbh.
We only have 2 more games in November so thats our only saving grace. Hopefully van de Ven will be back mid December when we have loads of games and will badly need him
The last true captains Spurs had were Ledley + Dawson. The next set of on-pitch leaders were the likes of Gallas, Parker. That their time was over a decade ago is shocking in itself. You thought that the likes of Dier would become captain, but once their form could nor guarantee a starting XI slot, that soon died. The irony is that the likes of Romero should be taking the role, but they are the biggest liabilities.
First game I’ve been able to get back to London for in over a year… fun times. Had a class weekend though, saw all me mates for a big night out Saturday then popped in to see some fam yesterday. Spurs just had to ruin it, lol. On a positive note - Vicario was ****ing superb again. What a signing, could’ve been 7 or 8 but for him. Dreading the next few games now though, Romero suspended for 3, van de Ven out for god knows how long, Udogie out for a game… our backline is gonna look like a horror movie.
Disagree...udogie went in two footed and could have been sent off, Romero kicked out when the ball was up the other end of the pitch, there were 5 disallowed goals (so VAR automatically looks at them), Var was absolutely correct on the penalty and red card and for Udogies 2nd yellow. None of that's on the ref imo. The only decision I disagree with is that Stirling should have got yellows for diving but the refs are reluctant to book for diving unless they are absolutely definitely sure it's happened. Chelsea could as why Porro (I think) who went down with minimal contact when we down to 9 men wasn't booked. I am very critical of the standard of refereeing but tonight's game was not influenced by the ref. It was influenced cos two of our players lost their heads. If the club do not address that we will continue to do this...a bit like Arsenal did in 2022 when they blamed the ref when they imploded at our place. They failed to address it and continued the mistakes in the Newcastle game which cost them the top 4...and arguably into last season.
What are the general football club positions on stupid red cards ?? Are players subject to wage fines etc ??
"It is just who we are mate, it is who we are and who we will be for as long as I am here. If we go down to five men we will have a go." I'm so pleased to have someone Kipling would have approved of as manager instead of the dreadful whiners some of the other clubs have.
Totally agree and I was saying this to my Spurs’ mates as well. Chelsea weren't impressive and the 4-1 scoreline is wildly deceptive. It took them the 94th minute to kill the game off and with 9-men, you had chances through Dier, Bentancur and Son to get a 2nd. You were brave and were willing to commit men forwards in attack even if it was a hugely risky strategy to undertake. You still took the game to them and that’s all you can ask for under those circumstances. Chelsea displayed a real lack of maturity and general footballing intelligence at times. There was no penetrative threat through central areas or half spaces and they kept rushing their ball in the final third, in addition to giving away cheap fouls (namely Mudryk and Cucurella) to ruin their own momentum. They also looked weak in transitions which helped you move up the pitch to create those chances that you did. It wasn’t an impressive showing from the west London side. I’m not moved by them at all. Nicolas Jackson ending with a hat-trick is a huge oxymoron when you look at how awful he was for 90% of the match.
please log in to view this image I'm sure he's very happy with that result, the useless, Geordie ****er. He'll definitely get a few more lucrative day trips to ref the Saudi Pro League. Seriously though, he just did what he always does. Fails to give anything early on, then loses it when it becomes a ****show. Absolutely the worst ref in the league and yet he's praised as being the best.
What a game! vicario is a beast and amazingly got both hands at full stretch on the penalty, but just not enough. Red cards were unbelievable but what a fighting spirit by the lads. VDV’s injury looks concerning. No way is that a mild strain. He pulled up in a lot of pain and could hardly walk. That looks like a 3 months lay off. I did my hamstring in July. Still painful as feck 4 months on but obviously I don’t have a team of physios and I’m far older than football players. I’m actually looking forward to seeing some of the younger guys come up the ranks and see what they can do. Proud of the boys and our fans tonight.
It was a fascinating watch and I loved the fact we kept going despite the reds. It’s what we’ve wanted for a long while, the never say die attitude and even though we never want to lose the Chavs - we can go again knowing we are one of the best in the league. Some of the football 11 Vs 11 was so good. Imagine taking a L with Mourinho and Conte and playing the ****test football imaginable. The atmosphere was truly incredible and probably paid a part in getting our players so hyped up. So we will need to quieten it down a bit lol. PS I’m never drinking again (until…)
I don’t wanna focus on the refereeing, as personally I think we’ve only got ourselves to blame, but I was surprised that the elbow by Reece James came to nothing.
After the decision not to upgrade the Udogie first yellow there was no way VAR could give that as a red imho
We badly need a win on Saturday to put this behind us. I just hope we can cobble some kind of defence together by then!!
Analysing the game a bit more felt we had some good, bad and ugly points: Good: Vicario - phenomenal. Man of the match by a country mile. What a keeper. Bentancur - to come on at 60 with 9 men was risky after his long lay off but seemingly got through fine and even almost (should’ve) scored. The work rate of the team - never gave up. The fans - never gave up either. Bad: Romero - we know with him it’s about taking the rough with the smooth. Last night was the rough. Let us down. Udogie - didn’t look fully fit to me and his inexperience showed for the second yellow. No major biggie though, he’s young, he’ll learn. Ange - love his mentality but felt a high line with 9 men with a defence that consisted of Dier and Hojbjerg at CB and Emerson at LB was stupidly naive. Not saying we could’ve held on for a point but we basically said to a really **** Chelsea team “here, take a number of shots against Vicario” and they obliged. Ugly: Van de Ven’s hamstring - that’s not a mild strain, that’s a full on tear in my opinion. Out for ages is my guess, 2 months at least. Absolutely gutted. Made worse at the fact we never signed another good CB in the summer which many of us knew we needed. Our defence for the next bunch of games now is - in my opinion - gonna get torn to shreds. We’re gonna lose a couple/ few on the trot now.
completely agree. Although, I did enjoy watching the high line. I’ve never seen anything so risky defensively before. And to be honest, I think it threw Chelsea somewhat. Took them bloody ages to take advantage of it. And tbf, the likes of Dier who was at a major disadvantage with that approach did exceptionally well. we were gonna lose at some point, it’s just **** that once again it was against Chelsea in a match full of drama. They are absolute garbage, and 11 v 11 we could easily have been the ones winning 4-1. IMO they are the worst side we’ve faced this season. Whilst their fans will be delighted with their “3 point lane” bragging rights, truth be told, Chelsea are unrecogniseable. the best way we can approach the next few games is to pick the players who we have that can continue to implement Ange’s approach. We’ve signed the likes of Phillips for a reason. Give the kid a chance. After last night, it’s evident the fans are totally on board and completely sold with the new tottenham, so he’ll be able to go out there knowing the fans are right behind him, and will be patient. Never a better time, IMO.
