Not really new news to be fair. For 20m plus, i'd do business. Knowing Carr, we'll have a class replacement lined up anyway..

Think Abramovich is happy to just chuck money at clubs just to get the players in and the stupid money thing over and done with before Fair Play. If he's happy to do that with us and Tiote is happy to go to Chelsea then we've gotta listen really. Don't wanna ever see a player leave but if we get another shed load of cash then y'know, what choice do we have.

I'd rather keep the team we've got now and expand for the next 5 years than just keep selling to be honest, but apparently that's not how football works. =/

Title sets the tone for the article as well. If SSN had said "Silly Money Required for Toon Stars" rather than "We'll sell for the right price", it would look a lot more positive even with the same quotes.

    colo isn't 31 til 2013....

also - relying on carr to keep discovering gems is ridiculous imo, we'll never build a squad that way

Have absolutely no problem with his quotes and they don't make me nervous at all. He has just basically said "if you want somebody, we're going to take you to the cleaners".

    Totally agree.
Not a good sign for the NUFC's other players or future squad signings either.

Wouldn't it just get to the position where Carr's foreign discoveries are simply
seen as transitional players as they 'bed in' to the premiership before being
snapped up by the "bigger clubs"

It's just the way of football, everyone bar Man City, Chelsea, Barca and Madrid (and maybe Anzhi or PSG) is a selling club in the end, see Ronaldo and Fabregas. What Pards has said is that we're in a better position than most to turn down unacceptable offers, we're not desperate for the money and can get decent fees. Only way to get a player easily from us is tapping up and being a dick a la Enrique and Barton, but we don't seem to struggle to find replacements who want to play for the shirt.

<ok> Exactly. People shouldn't be finding negatives in this at all, Pardew has just answered a question about if he'd be selling people in Jan and he has answered it well. What else can he say? If he said 'no we won't sell anybody' he's going to get the Andy Carroll saga thrown in his face again by everybody that calls him a puppet. The poor bastard just can't win with some people.

I do not want him to leave and I don't think he will. Pardew is just stating that we will only sell if a stupid amount of money is paid for him and in that case its a win win. If the offer is low we won't sell, if its ridiculously high then we sell and have enough money for a replacement plus a few extra players and some money in the bank.

I would hope clubs are slightly wary of dealing with us given that our negotiators fleeced Liverpool with Carroll.

We have to find the right balance between accepting a ridiculous offer and replacing a player with a Carr gem like spurs did with Berbatov and Carrick, and rejecting a ridiculous offer because we need to build a squad if we want to reach a good position in the table, like Spurs did with Modric.

  17. Players are normally sold after the manager claims they're not for sale though.

Claiming they're not for sale at any price is just a tactic to get other clubs to bid higher.
