Good game, nice to see the same high press, passing playing system played as the senior team, helps them step up.
saw the 2nd half ending but liked what i saw, some good passing and movement and our keeper looked very confident and competent, commentators were very complimentary to our lads as well.
Was it Ross Stewart who scored? Seen their scorer was a J.Stewart but thought it might be a mistake. How did Nectar look up against Ross? Thought he looked decent when I watched him at the end of the Aussie season after there was rumours of him coming here but haven’t seen anything of him since.
Haha what would your ratings be? How did Stewart play? I know he's irrelevant now, but im just curious.
Really enjoyed the game but has Jewi lost his studs? Forever slipping in the first half - playing RW seemed to partially negate his pace re beating his FB particularly with him tending to come inside where there's inevitably another covering player - compared to LW where having stood the FB up he can knock it past and leave them for dead. We played some lovelt one touch footie 2nd half - seemed to create dozens of opportunities that didn't quite click Ashia(?) was very lively and provided an assist for our first - they seemed bigger than us! Triantis looked very solid on the ball but LND left the CB's for dead to get on the end of an excellent cross in his inimitable style. Good luck to him.
They always down grade the strikers for missing chances. Gardiner terrorised their defence, they had 3 men marking Jewi in the second half he almost scored but the keeper made a great save. Stewart looked pretty sharp considering his injury and took the goal really well. He didnt celebrate and shook hands with our coaches as he went off at half time. Hopefully he doesnt score when we play them
I saw him close up when we played Pools and he looked very very raw. The best thing we could do with him is send him on loan to a League 1 club in Jan imo.
Sunderland AFC Under-21s came from behind to pick up a late 1-2 win over Southampton at Staplewood Training Ground. Goals from Harry Gardiner and Ellis Taylor sealed three points on the road for Graeme Murty's side. Ten minutes played and it was the hosts who took the lead. Derrick Abu drove down the right side before crossing to former Sunderland man, Ross Stewart who finished with an outstretched leg. Just moments later, the Black Cats should have been level as Gardiner went one-on-one with McNamara but fired just wide. A third of the game through and Taylor rushed in on goal before having his low-effort deflected wide. Five minutes on and Gardiner had another big opportunity, twisting and turning past his marker but once again his effort was fired past the post. The hosts started the second half the stronger side and should have doubled their lead before a Richardson low save and Fieldson's goal-line clearance denied the Saints. The Lads found their equaliser with 20 minutes to play. Taylor with the corner before the ball bounced around in the area and Gardiner was on hand to fire home his sixth goal of the season. It was the late late show once again for the young Black Cats with the winner coming eight minutes from time. Taylor again involved with a free kick on the left side that was swung into the area, hitting off a Southampton man and into the bottom corner. Graeme Murty's side get back to winning ways and climb up to eighth in the Premier League 2 table.
