Some sources are saying he's going to do a Nolan and find another club as he thinks he is worth more money.
My view is that he overrates himself and that we can do a lot better in that position.
What are your thoughts and who would you replace him with?
I'm thinking Santon and another up and coming right back to develop....

Santon should stay on the left unless we bring another left-back in.

Aye I get the feeling Simmo could start getting a bit big for his boots. He's been at best a Championship squad level player in some matches this season (Wolves away springs to mind!) He just needs to remember where he came from...we gave him the chance he needed!!

Not sure what his weekly pay is, but around £25k per week or so is fair. He signed when we were in the Championship so if he gets around £15k per week now then he should get a pay rise. But not if he thinks he's worth £40k per week.

Impossible for any of us to judge because we don't know what he has been offered, what his current wage is, or what add ons/incentives are in it for him. I'd like to keep him as I think he is still improving. Defensively you'd be a fool to query him really, but his quality with the ball needs to progress. But on the subject of greed etc, it always make me laugh when people judge because the reality is we don't have any of the facts in our possession. I've learned not to worry about that side because our opinion counts for **** all. Its just a business negotiation between him and the club, what will be will be.

I think it's come with the recent talk of an England call up. But if he thinks he's getting in before Richards, Walker & Johnson he needs his head checking out. Sell now, terrible player.

I agree (apart from the ability bit, I think there are still major flaws with his game), but by the same token if he does go we can't jump on top of the board as usual with 'just give him an extra £10k' nonsense.

    Taken from the people.....

Danny Simpson will turn down a new contract at Newcastle
Nov 20 2011 by Alan Oliver, The People

    Recommend (2)
DANNY SIMPSON looks set to turn down Newcastle’s new contract offer – paving the way for a move, with FULHAM the latest side to show an interest.

The right-back still has 18 months of his deal to run but the five-year offer on the table means he would remain as one of the club’s lowest earners.

Both WEST HAM and QPR are also monitoring the situation but Fulham have now entered the race after Zdenek Grygera’s knee injury.

West Ham have a long-standing interest in Simpson, while former Toon team-mate Joey Barton has been singing the 24-year-old’s praises to Rangers boss Neil Warnock.

The Magpies have been watching Nathaniel Clyne, 20, at Crystal Palace but they have a ready-made replacement in £5.3million signing from Inter Milan, 20-year-old Davide Santon.

This. Although I wouldn't cry if we moved Santon to the right-hand side and bought a natural LB in Pieters/Cissoco. <ok>

Or even someone young and promising like Clyne. He's a cracking prospect!

Bring in Pieters. Then we can have Santon and Raylor as RBs and Pieters and Ferguson as LBs

This too. Or just buy Clyne who can cover both full-back areas effectively too and has great potential. <ok>

    this ^

the thing with pieters is his agent i read somewhere last week (i'll try and find it) that he was due to sign in the summer but his agent got greedy and it fell apart with pieters being a bit gutted, apparently we have been back in contact and pieters is keen but low and behold his agent is being a **** again.
So unless he ditches his agent or the agent backs down i think we'll move on to other targets. It's all to do with payments to the agent nothing to do with wages/bonuses.

Been rumours about him leaving since the end of the Summer transfer window. Does an alright job at RB but not good enough to be a fan favourite. Also goes on about Man Utd too much, almost guarantee there will be an interview with him on nufc.co.uk about how hes excited to play against his old club etc

Exactly we just don't know either way and its wrong for us to condemn either party. The club could be low balling him but he could just as easily be being greedy.

We need a natural left back though whether Simpson stays or not. To be fair I think the club will know this. If he goes we'll need to replace him but it could be a cheap exercise as any signing will play 2nd fiddle to Santon in time. I'd rather keep Simpson as he's solid back up, but it depends what hes asking and also what level of wages the board wish to carry in the full back areas. As you say someone like Clyne (or preferably Adam Smith who looks a fine young right back but I doubt Spurs would release) would fit the back up role well if we do have to lose Simpson. I've always said I'm not a massive Simpson fan but there is no doubt he is in cracking form.

Let's see how many clubs will come in and offer him more than we are.

I like Simpson, he's done well for us and has a good attitude out on the pitch. He is absolutely mad however if he thinks we aren't going to just get rid and replace him with someone better and cheaper if he starts playing hardball on his contract. Didn't work for Barton, didn't work for Nolan, won't work for Simpson.

If this is indeed true, then bye Simmo, thanks for the great service.

But in his case and the others, we don't know the facts and figures so it is hard to criticise either way. Say he's currently on 15k and wants 25k, but the club want to offer him 15k-20k, then the club is low balling him and he'd be a fool to accept. But he could be asking for 30k-35k, in which case he is being greedy. He's worth around 20k-25k in my opinion based on his performances. All depends on what the offer is.
