Chris Rigg has been called up to England Under-17s’ squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in Indonesia. The Young Lions have been placed in Group C alongside Brazil, Iran and New Caledonia. England’s campaign begins on Saturday 11th November against New Caledonia at Jakarta International Stadium before they take on Iran on Tuesday 14th November at the same venue. Their group fixtures then conclude on Friday 17th November against Brazil, with the game once again being played in Jakarta. Subsequently, Rigg will miss a number of the Club’s Sky Bet Championship fixtures with the final being played on Saturday 2nd December.
Not great for our team but fantastic for the lad to get tournament experience at a national level, I think he is captain as well or at least he was during the last international
I think Mowbray might actually be slightly relieved tbh ... ... Rigg is bound to be pushing him for a start and this will take his mind off it while he develops more.
️ KS: 'It’s a mark of his progression that we had to discuss the implications that his absence would have on our squad, but both Tony and I felt this was a vital and unique experience for Chris and we’re looking forward to supporting him from afar...' #SAFC
Great news for the lad. Hopefully Aouchiche, Dack and maybe even Matete back around the squad during that period so reduces impact.
hope he does himself and the club proud, will further enhance the reputation the club is getting...also hope we get some decent tv coverage.
Brilliant news for the lad and for us. As much as I want to see him on the pitch for us what a learning opportunity to play against the likes of Brazil in a tournament environment. Hope he comes back a winner, drops his medal on Mowbrays desk and says where am I playing Saturday gaffer.
Chance to play regular football at an international level and challenge himself against his peers? Great opportunity, sure he’s buzzing
