What a great example of what's wrong, all the play, no goals, and we let in 2. Not overly impressed with Pochs' line up. Gusto and Cucurella both looked really good last game as did Colwill in as CD. So he puts him out on the side again brings in 2 new players, and again nothing starts from the back. Just when we find a line up that works, he changes it. Jackson again looks lost, all his best work is done outside the box, not inside where a striker should be. Understand Enzo and Mudryk were not up for this one, and Madueke worked hard, but just no cohesion from back to front again. Hope we get injured stars back ASAP and Pochettino can finally settle on his 1st 11, and get the back up players coming on as subs in a team that's working as a team, not a bunch of individuals.
The longer the game went on the more you could see it coming. I thought we should have had a penalty on Sterling though and after seeing the one given in the Manc derby I'm even more surprised we didn’t get it. Played okay again but it was more of what you’d expect, teams know they can get us a result against us away from home so maybe need a chance in approach. On a side note, I know we’ve signed so many players but in the last year, probably longer, has there ever been a period when we’ve had our best XI available? We were short of at least 4 yesterday and it just seems to be a common occurrence, can’t just be bad luck surely.
You'd have to be looking at the training / medical team particularly with so many hamstrings causing problems. I know from a similar problem with Rugby League players in Oz that a Team here consulted an American surgeon who sorted it out with a specialised training problem, so it is possible. Something as fundamental as hip and lower back misalignments I seem to recall. By the way, thanks for replying to this post. I've posted several recently, but trying to raise this site is like trying to raise Lazarus from the dead, seems no one has anything to share or talk about, despite this being the most interesting and confusing time in Chelseas' history for 20 years.
It sure is. This team is up and down more than a kangaroo in mating season. I really thought we had turned a bit of a corner after the previous two results but no.....here we go again. Cannot score for ****. Same old BS, all the possession, double figure number of shots and sweet **** all to show for it. This season is a write off, we need to give Poch a year from now. If we aint in the top 6 this time next season he will have to go.
In truth , apart from half a billion spent, nothing has changed. As you say, no goals , loads of possession, nothing to show. I don't think Poch is the answer to anything. His selections are weird, but I will be happy to wait until all the injured ( and there's loads of talent and opportunities with them ) are in the mix to see what he can actually do in terms of improving the team. Some serious questions re recruitment too, Jackson is not worth 2 bob as a PL striker, never in the right place, always waiting on someone else to set him up.Too raw and inexperienced, though he'd make a great winger !! I don't rate Fofana either, nor Broja. Poch needs James and Chilwell fit and firing, he needs Colwill as CD being the only one to pass properly from the back 4 and get midfield running forward, and he needs Nkunku to sort out the mess we create in the box. So batten down the hatches, it's not going to be pretty for some time to come.
Our squad is young and we do have quite a few injuries to come back, so I am hopeful with time things will improve. My only worries are a) Whether our players can get fit and stay fit, as injuries seem to be a reoccurring issue in the past 2-3 seasons and b) Whether Poch is the man to get the most out of this squad. Now Poch has a reputation with getting a lot out of young squads, and with the mess he inherited I am willing to give him another year to try sort this **** out. Lampard, for all his faults as a manager, said that when he came back as interim manager at the end of last season, it was a real **** show, and nothing like it was during his first tenure. The general feeling amongst the squad wasnt right, people werent training hard enough and the attitude was not conducive with success, and thats quite worrying. I think a similar thing is happening at Man United, the current squad is so far removed from any of the squads that were successful, that that winning DNA is no longer present in the club, and I think we are seeing the same thing with us. Management changes, ownership changes, player changes, its all diluted us so much!
Good call. We were a real mess under Potter, though the off field management was shambolic. Lampard was on a hiding to nothing and copped a lot of flak. Some off field stuff has calmed down , but still we have loads of youth potential, little experience, too many players out of position largely due to too many injuries. The result is an unbalanced squad and a balancing miracle for Poch each game. Only time will sort this out IF Boehly and Co have the patience, and Poch, though maybe not a serial winner, is good enough to get us back into the top 4 or 5. There's also the small problem of other Clubs like Newcastle, Brighton Villa improving quite a lot !!
The thing is, if you'd told me a year ago that Chelsea were gonna spend a billion pound on their squad in the next 12 months, there would have been no way I would have expected our available striker options to be Nicky Jackson and Armando Broja.....I would have expected Osimhen or Kane. WTF are we going for players like Lavia also when Maddison was going for £15m less and is twice the player Lavia likely will ever be. It seems like Boehly and co are just looking to bloat our squad and inflate the value of the club without actually thinking about the on field success side of the game.
To make things more confusing, did you see Tino Livramento and Lewis Hall in the Newcastle game tonight?? Who was the genius that sold those two??
I do question s lot the transfers we made but 3 months in and our outgoings look like excellent business. Havertz, Mount & Kovacic can’t get in the starting XI and we got about 120M on the three of those. Hall played well last night but all accounts and I’m disappointed we lost him but has he played a minute in the league yet? Not getting a striker was an oversight which I think has now been recognised but our team was in need of a massive overhaul imo. It’ll get there, will just take a lot of time.
Yeah Cant say I am regretting too many of our outgoings from the summer, certainly not Havertz, Mount or Kova. Did we really need Lavia though? We spent the best part of £100m signing Lavia and Jackson, for that money we could have got Osimhen or Kane. Gotta say though, I think Cole Palmer is looking like a decent bit of business. Think City might have really lost out there, but their loss is our gain.
