Just what I was going to say. Islanders are not great travellers…for instance I live in Newport and haven’t been to Ryde for years…after all it is 6 miles away. Therefore, the Island is divided into Blues and Reds based on proximity of ferry.

You don't want to go travelling to Ryde - they don't like intellectuals there (Cue many Ryde-based responses, none of them polite)

True story: was travelling on a bus replacement service to Portsmouth Harbour when some strange and rough looking people got on. I whispered about it to my brother and he shushed me saying ‘Careful, they are Pompey fans, there’s a match on.’

And another story which I know to be true because I saw the video…perhaps you remember it. Saints fans were shaking a police barrier placed to separate fans at a rare Southampton v Portsmouth match when the barrier collapsed. After a pause for thinking, the Saints fans picked up the barrier and carried on shaking it. We must be lovers not fighters <laugh>

Personally, I hope he gets presented on the pitch to the sound of 3,000 boos from the away end and then sits in the directors' box and watches us pass them off the park in a dominant win :)

Yeah Skybet have him as 7-4 favourite

There's also Bristol City too, who we also play soon. I wouldn't be surprised if he turns up in either dugout against us.

Sounds too perfect to happen. Feels much more likely we pass them off the park and they win 1-0 with a route one goal from their only attack of the game!

NJ will do really well at Millwall too tbh, that team is suited to his lump it forward and run onto it.

I'd have thought the opposite given Rowett has been there, he's more of a possession manager isn't he? So presumably he would have signed players in that mould.

Years ago in a pub near Yarmouth, overheard someone having a catch up conversation with someone they had bumped into whom they must have known in school.

They chatted through a few names then the woman said "What happened to x?"

The guy replied "Oh, she moved to Shanklin"

She said "What? What would you want to move all that way for?"

    [It's 14 miles]

I have customers who have a branch on the island. Let's just say there aren't many different surnames in the usernames, but there's quite a few people in total <laugh>

Stephen Fry on Norfolk (where he grew up): Too many fingers, too few surnames.
