Alonso's drive was good no doubt about that but IMO Buttons was better and for me Button has been the driver of the season this year also his drive at Canada outstrips anything any other driver has done not just for this season but for many seasons absolutely peerless like I said In my opinion.

For me the driver of the season is obviously Vettel, but the best drive of the season has to be Button in Canada.

It was a bloody good drive from Button in Canada... For me, one of the best I've seen in a long while due to it's thorough entertainment value. It might not have been a perfect drive, but it was the best by a country mile.

Alonso did have a great drive in Abu Dhabi though, possibly somewhat assisted by Buttons technical probs but he had a mega start and showed some signs of putting Hamilton under pressure at times, but I also think that Hamilton had a good race by refraining from tearing off in to the sunset (literally) and burning his tyres up, There was a sense that he may have been controlling the gap.

The top three all had a great trace, I'd probably pick Alonso as my top from the three (even despite Button's KERS nightmare) as I didn't expect him to be that close and also had me worried that he was going to snatch the win from Hamilton. The biggest disappointment for me was Vettel's early exit. It would have been interesting to see if Hamilton had any extra in reserve and could have beaten him on track.

I agree with pretty much your whole comment there Bhaji; particularly the first bit which I've quoted here.

lets have it right devil , lets get all the facts about buttons drive in canada into the open for those of us that only have patriotic english selective memory syndrome -- PESMS for short , me not being one of those people ,

it was a decent drive by button of that there was no doubt , but lets not forget that mclaren were the only big team to go for a wet set up on the day which made mclaren ultra competitive on race day - alonso did not have that luxury neither did he have anything resembling a competitive car at abu dhabi last sunday as button did at canada -

however -- lets also not forget the thing that actually won the canadian GP for button was the safety car , how many times did the safety car come out to negate the lead for vettel every time he built it up -- 5 or 6 times -

without the manufactured advantage of the multiple times the safety car did come out to wipe out vettels lead on multiple occasions button would not have got remotely close enough to vettel to challenge him at the end -

as it said it was a decent drive by button but lets not forget how many times he had false help over vettel in that race with the phoney manufactured advantage that the safety car brings to drivers behind the leader and without that phoney help multiple times button would not have got remotely close to vettel --

All the drivers had the same deal with the safety car Jenson got a puncture after the safety car and ended up at the back of the field McLaren weren't the only team that went with a wet set up and the didn't go full wet and the difference between a dry and wet set up these days with the DRS and EBD is negligible.

And anyway like I said it is my opinion. that certain others including people like Alonso, Whitmarsh. Lewis happen to share.

Alonso's drive was a fine one, but best of the season? Not by a long way. All he did was sit in 2nd place, under no pressure from behind or putting no pressure on the guy infront. Hardly awe-inspiring was it?

If we are going on just getting a podium in an 'uncompetitive' car, as if a Ferrari is genuinely uncompetitive anyway, then Hedfield's 3rd in Mayalsia easily beats Alonso.

fully aware all the drivers had the same deal with the safety car ( what has that got to do with anything ) when only a couple of drivers ( button and webber ) at the time had a car to match the red bull of vettel ,

as i said without the phony advantages of the multiple introductions of the safety car in buttons favour do you seriously believe he would have got remotely close to vettel --

how do you know he was not putting pressure on hamilton as he kept the gap to 2-3 secs for a big part of the race ,
lets also not forget alonso was pulling away from button and webber before button had his problem in a non competitive ferrari that had no buisness doing that -

hence why it was a pretty good drive in a dog of a ferrari --

How do you know Hamilton was not pushing his car?

How do you know he wasn't pacing himself and the tyres? Maybe teh boy is learning?

That Ferrari has been on the podium many times in the hands of Alonso. Uncompetitive it is not. A HRT is uncompetitive.

It was a good drive, no one is doubting that at all, but drive of the season? That's pushing it a bit far.

suggest you read my topic again saint - since when does it say it was the drive of the season , it merely suggests it was one of the drives of the year , not the drive of the year ,

the ferrari is competitive , with what ? ,
yeh --- we have all seen how they qualify 5th and 6th most races and how massa is mixing it with the mclarens and red bull -

You are using Massa as the yardstick!? <laugh> though Massa was well in the mix with Button & Webber before his silly spin, so i guess the Ferrari must be a competitive machine? No?

You're title says it is one of the drives of the season. Everyone else disagrees. A good drive, but no more than that.

so we are now back to the old chestnut of massa being a dummy when it suits peoples agenda on here --- what a surprise ,
so you honestly believe the ferrari has been competitive / equal match with the mclaren and red bull -- thought not

we have all seen how competitive it is when alonso only qualifies an average 5th all season and massa way below that
--- yeh thats some machine -

exactly who is this " everybody else " that says it was not one of the drives of the season -- from my reading of the replies most of the comparisons have been made with the button/ canada drive all be it button did drive well that day ,

however ------ as we all know the safety car gave button his win that day --

Massa has been rubbish all season, and in all honesty, ever since his accident in 2009. Or are you suggesting he is the equal of Alonso?

Have I said the Ferrari was equal? No. Stop putting words into people's mouths. I am saying the Ferrari is not 'uncompetitive' as you have said. A HRT is uncompetitive. The Ferrari is just not as good as a Red Bull Or McLaren overall, but as we have seen on their day Ferrari has produced great race pace. Or are you saying the Quali is the ultimate speed of teh car that gets transferred into a race? Careful, you got tripped up on this on old 606 ;)

If you look at the poll that has been done of what is the best drive of the season, Button is miles ahead of the other suggestions. It my have escpaed your attention , but people aren't comparing Alonso;s drive to Button's. They are saying Button'swas so much better. If you wish to use that as a comparison then fine, but you can compare anything with anything. Alonso's drive compared to Maldonado's was frankly extraordinary. Doesn't quite have the same impact, does it?

how do we know massa has been rubbish all season when he has not had the car to perform , he was fine in 07 and 08 when he had the car to perform ,now all of a sudden when he does not have the car to perform suddenly he has had a talent bypass when it suits your agenda ,--- what a surprise

what exactly are you saying if the ferrari is not the equal of mclaren and red bull , how can it be competitive when it is not the equal of ferrari or red bull -- my understanding of competitive is a car that can fight for the WDC -
--------- have i missed something these last 18 races then -

( as for the old bbc 606 -- lets not stoop so low as to digging up that kind of desparate garbage to use against each other on here , we are both above that kind of desparate crap )

as for whatever poll you are talking about -- as i said alonso did not need the multiple introduction of the safety car to gift him a win at canada

the patriotic english disciples may have conveniantly forgotten all about it
    ------ but i am afraid i didnt -

So Massa is fine? He has had no ill effects from hs accident and has returned 100% of the driver he was before?

Come in, it's plain to see he is not the driver he was.

Our opinions of competitve are clearly different. I view uncompetitive as not have a hope in hell i.e. an HRT, whereas a Ferrari has been able to take it ti the others on certain days. It is not a 'dog', far from it, it just isn't quite as good as the top two. I'd like to see where a decent team-mate to Alonso would be putting that Ferrari. I'm sure he'd be able to get a podium out of it.

i dont agree about massa - just how long does it take a driver to get over an accident ,( dont make me show you a link where he himself says his accident did not have an effect on his 2010 performances )

lets have it right he was whizzing about in high powered go karts 7 weeks after his hungarian 09 biff and was then able to match alonso"s times in the pre season testing a few weeks after that -- as i recall it did not take mika hakk very long to get back up to speed after his 95 accident --

it seems our opinion on the word competitive are different - in relation to formula 1 when talking about the top teams competitive to me means just that - competitive with each other -- not picking up the scraps that mclaren and red bull leave behind

lets also not forget alot of ferrari"s problems this year have stemmed from the lack of correlation from there wind tunnel results and how it has actually translated onto the track ,
they have also not been able to match the mclaren and red bull with there own version of the exhaust blown diffuser due to there wind tunnel problems as was evident when it was banned at silverstone and alonso suddenly became competitive -,

Karl Wendlinger never found his speed after his Monaco 94 accident.

Massa was always going to say he was over the accident otherwise Ferrari would not have him back in teh car! He's hardly going to say he's not as good as he was. His results relative to Alonso have been poor, scoring barely half the points of him in each season.

Either Alonso is stunningly good, whichwe know him to be, or Massa is and always was a second rate driver to be so far behind Alonso. But his was the guy who ended up matching Schumacher and Raikkonen before his accident.
