Deduction. Stripping trophies does nothing. And even worse if they then dish out those trophies to teams finishing 2nd. Fans don’t get any kind of retrospective excitement from it.
They should strip the trophies, but not reallocate them. The record books should then show "trophy removed from Manchester City for cheating" They should also be demoted two divisions and banned from signing any new players for 2 years
Stripping trophies does a lot. It shows that they don't deserve them because they cheated. Anything you win unfairly, you didn't win at all, let the records reflect that. It's far more meaningful than points deduction in their case. I don't think they should be dished down but have the title shown for that year as vacant like they do in boxing. A transfer ban and exclusion from European competitions would be a just punishment as well. A fine will mean nothing to them.
If you leave City their titles and give them a 12 point deduction and a 100mil fine then they'll laugh, spend 500mil on players and win the next title by 13 points Only titles being stripped and a relegation will be a deterent When Everton get a whole 3 points and city a 50k fine then the Todd will look very smug
Trophy striping wouldn't mean much really; sure, the record books will look different but Man City will see it as if they won them still, the clubs that inherit the trophies will see them as tainted. I think points deduction is the only way to get the message across to ALL clubs that it will not be tolerated but needs to be substantial (for example, 25pts for five consecutive seasons) to carry any weight. Man City would still qualify for the CL though; can we can then from Europe? I'm sure it FA chooses how the European spots are allocated #zerotolerance
I think the stripping of the trophies shows cheating won’t be tolerated like lance armstrong deffo don’t reallocate but defo remove It won’t happen but it should The club should be sent to the bottom tier of the pyramid BUT they must do that to all of the clubs that cheat imho
They won't care. They'd laugh at that more than a fine. They've already enjoyed it. Plus, I don't think striping is fair on the players, it's not their fault.
Juve's rep never recovered. marseillie's rep never recovered. Armstrong has been destroyed totally. city owners can bleat what the like but if the titles get stripped the people who matter will be calling them cheats to their faces
It’s for that exact reason I think the titles is all you can do oh and start them at the bottom of the pyramid so it takes about 20 years of successive promotions to even get a challenge for the prem It’s not so much about what I feel for me or even what the club feels it’s more about what the record books show for me the players had the happy moments That can’t be taken away. That’s enough for them IF it’s proven and true the record books are the history In a 100 years time no one will ever know how much they cheated We aren’t talking one tiny mistake here Allegedly we are talking over a 100 counts The record books should be expunged imho agree no one should have the titles and then it will be forever remembered what transpired
That’s fine I do lol I just think this is potentially horrific sadly though I think they will not be the only ones I think the game is infested tbph I think that’s why they have to be hit really really excessively hard you have Newcastle coming through and the guy who was buying Utd If they don’t see consequences it will happen over and over I would also tot up all the prize money and fine them that amount plus some
IMO, they won't care about history, what's happened as happened no matter what the authorities do now. I think the authorities should be looking to **** them over for the future! Going to cheat? Here's a punishment to ensure your winning ****all in the next 5-10 years
Oh, and whoever mentioned Lance Armstrong... He was banned for life. You banning Man City indefinitely?
If they're found guilty of a serious enough breach, then stripped of their titles is the only conceivable fair solution as far as I'm concerned. It's a matter of principle - anything won through cheating should never be allowed to stand. A points deduction is a temporary setback, a fine is farcical.
I think the stripping of titles would be the last thing they want. Whether or not they got to celebrate at the time, those medals would be taken away and when asked in the future what they won at city, the answer would be nothing. Players live for trophies and accolades, taking them away would hurt far more than a point deduction.
