I don’t mind where they’re from makes no difference as long as they look to impose a good style of football. Kieran McKenna is doing a good job at Ipswich with a worse squad than ours imo.

I don’t think TM has done a bad job at all. We play nice football I just think he’s stubborn and won’t address the glaring issues we have. Reminds me of Erik Ten Haag at United. Seems to pick his teams based on who he likes/trusts rather than who’s best for the job and subs are mediocre at best.

It was a really mixed bag last night. Disappointing result though an excellent performance for large parts of the game.

Adding some more thoughts about the match…

Dan Neil always puts a shift in but he had that extra desire last night to make a difference. Gave everything. He made one excellent run through their defence early on but no one was close to seeing it, never mind putting the ball through.

Our weakness in the air was evident again. Burstow, Bellingham and Ekwah should compete a lot better than they do. Great technique on the ball but it looks like they don’t like the heading part of the game. There’s no law to say they should but it adds to our vulnerability (and detracts from goal scoring). Hemir is a better header of the ball so there’s another argument to give him more game time.

Ekwah in particular drives me up the wall. Hell of a good footballer, but miles off on the dirty side of the game. When the game is on for us he can be a rolls royce. When we need to dig in he seems lacking to me. Being physical and competitive is something any pro should be able to do. He has a bit of learning to do yet. He isnt alone in our squad though and it is where patience is needed. There is a reason he has gone from Chelsea to West Ham without any mens football. Our job now is to help him become a man on the pitch. If we do that we have a player.

Really impressed with Dan Neil last night. He’s improved a lot over the past 12 months. Vital player for us now.

St Pauli average age? 26.4. So he has a mixture of experience and younger players. They have 1 21 year old in the squad and he’s the youngest player.

What gives you the impression he’ll work well with our young players? I’m seriously interested to know as he currently is doing a cracking job in the second tier in Germany with a squad full of experience.

Agreed about Ekwah etc not doing their job defensively in terms of using their physique, lot of fingers being pointed at O'Nien but we've got enough height in the squad to defend and attack crosses. We just need to do it better.

Neil is looking great, I've always liked him but I think these days he's improved in every important area (apart from shooting) and is now an undeniably effective player. Huge potential given his age and level of development.

Like the last time we went up? <whistle>

We have a very young, very good squad ... and based on what I've seen of the Prem this season, we would probably finish around mid table <cheers>

It's not a bad shout - Ross Stewart was a very effective option when defending set pieces.
Seelt is absolutely massive too - it's about time we starting using the options we have

Am I the only one who thinks we need to ditch this zonal marking off? It's alright if you have a team full of 6ft 4s but all an attacking team has to do is put their best headers of the ball against our smallest/weakest players and get their set piece taker to put it in those areas and they'll have a very good chance of scoring. Just put your best defenders up against their best attackers ffs.

Nope. I think every fan who sees it thinks the same. Or at least attack the ball when it’s coming to “your zone”!! I hate it. Go man for man. But I only ever coached to under 14s level!!

Tony Mowbray says if Sunderland's strikers were taking the net off in training then they would be in the team.

Adds that the four strikers are still settling in and that three of them are still really young.

Says Rusyn needs to learn the language.

A worse squad than your relegated team last season would finish mid table in the PL..? Make it make sense please? Is this providing you replace 7-8 of your starting Xl once you’re promoted? You’re no better than Burnley were last season from what I’ve seen.

Talks out of his arse such a poor excuse man. What was he saying about Burstow scoring about 50 goals in one training session when he joined?

A worse squad? - doubt there is a single Leicester fan that would agree with that. Maddison is the only one that would get in this team right now IMO ... and I suspect I watch them a lot more than you ...

Tielemans is warming the bench at Villa ... and rightly so - he strolled through games doing **** all for us last season ...

Loved Harvey Barnes but he can't get a start for Newcastle and Mavididi, Futawa, McAteer, and Marcal-Madivadua have all come in and scored goals from the wing ... and the first two have been virtually unplayable ...

We've kept Vardy, Iheanacho, Ndidi, Dewsbury-Hall, Vestergaard and Faes and shipped out high earners that either weren't performing or had gone past their sell by...

You do realise we've just set an all time record for points scored in the first 13 games in the entire history of the Championship since it came into being? We have a 20 positive goal difference, Ipswich have 13 - the next is 6!

Do you get to watch much football? <cheers>
