Dozens of Arab citizens of Israel have been arrested in connection with social media posts about the war in Gaza. Among them is a well-known singer and influencer from Nazareth, Dalal Abu Amneh, who was held in police custody for two days before being released on Wednesday on bail. She's now under house arrest until Monday. According to her lawyer, Abeer Baker, she was accused of "disruptive behaviour" by police officers, who said her posts could incite violence among her followers. The post that attracted police attention was an image of the Palestinian flag with the Arabic motto: "There is no victor but God." Ms Baker says the singer, who is well known across the Arab world for her songs about Palestinian heritage, was expressing a religious sentiment. It isn't quite as easy as that, although conversions through the Reform movement are indeed recognised in Israeli civil courts (although most of Netanyahu's cabinet would like to change that rule if the judicial reforms go through). Any applicant for citizenship due to conversion to Judaism needs to live and actively participate (minimum 300 hours iirc) in a Jewish community in the diaspora for a year before moving to Israel. They are then granted what is called A-5 Temporary Status, which is upgraded to full citizenship after the applicant has spent 9 months actively participating in a community in Israel.

One of our dickheads threw a vape at our game on Saturday, which will now likely lead to another hefty fine, if not a points deduction (after a previous fine for language). I suppose I look at it why should football fans be discriminated against when it comes to the law. Although I don't even know what that means 'Jehova' and not something I'm likely to say, so I don't know what bit of law it violates, however, I suppose I'd ask myself, would it be allowed in a British football ground, if not then it shouldn't be allowed outside of them either. But I take the point about current laws - and my point of a two tier system in and out of football stadiums, that seems to apply.
