I did wonder if RM’s early season praise for Stephens might see him brought back at the first opportunity, but RM did say last week that Stephens and Holgate would have to push hard to get into the team, ahead of the current pair, so maybe Jack will have to be patient, when fit.
I'm not able to go to away matches but if those truly dedicated fans who are prepared to travel to Hull and Preston keep up their fantastic support, I can see us getting quite a lot of points away from home.
Going to Preston for the first time since April 1966 when we were close to promotion to the first division. We drew 1-1 and if memory serves Paine scored a penalty but missed another. It was an overnight coach trip leaving Bedford Place at 11.30pm and arriving 7.30am on the Saturday. We played an impromtu game of football in a town centre park against a group of Preston lads, jumpers for goalposts, through the morning. This time we are staying with friends in the Lancashire dales from tonight till Thursday. Preston, we are assured by the Good Beer Guide, has a fine choice of micropubs, could be a long day. I never make predictions but guessing I'll be in the queue at halftime...COYRs or whatever silly shirts we play in..
Was planning to go to Preston but don’t fancy a three hour drive over the moors for a night match. Too soon after last match. Have done Sheffield Wed, Sunderland, Boro and Hull. Two wins, two defeats. Met up with some ‘dedicated’ fans on Saturday. Three twenty somethings arrived 20 minutes late, asked the score and immediately started abusing our players, their players, the officials, the home crowd, whilst looking at their phones. The only time they weren’t effing and blinding was when they said they needed another drink. At half time they wandered off to find other seats, to find like minded fans. Oh how I missed them in the second half. Inciteful comments like effing smash him, snap him, etc enriched my football knowledge no end. MrsOSS has just told me to stop being an old bloke. It’s the only fun I get!
