This is seismic stuff. I’m an old school leftie myself, socialist and trade unionist all the way; but elections are won on the centre ground. Labour abandoned it to their considerable cost under Jeremy Corbyn (a principled man, but no leader), now the Tories have allowed themselves to be dragged to the political margins of culture war, anti-woke, anti-immigrant rhetoric. They deserve to be wiped out at the ballot box, quite frankly, and barring a miracle they will be. Keir Starmer, the future is Labour’s - don’t **** it up now.
Such is the public mistrust if not disgust of politics and politicians brought about by the inept, often corrupt, tory governments from dodgy Dave onwards that I hear to often "they're all same", not so of course, so counter arguments need to be put. I'm not sure how but ongoing partygate and the covid inquiry bring the corruption and incompetance of the tories to the fore.
Mid beds going red is frankly unbelievable. Widely considered an unwinnable blue seat within the labour party until this by election. 55th safest tory seat in the country gone red. Wow.
Side note - Labour managed to win despite the Lib Dems and Reform gaining votes. Tories getting pincered from all sides.
No no no! You don't understand! The Tories are serving the people! OK, not everyone, but the ones they've helped are happy, not to say very rich.
I'm an overseas voter in the Henley on Thames ward tory since 1910. John Howell won in 2019 with a majority of 14,053 gaining 32,189 vote, Libs, Lab and Greens got 26,570 between them. It wouldn't take too big a swing to make history if Lab and greens withdrew. Tactical voting a must in the next election but unlikely I'm sorry to say.
I expect that Tim Davie will tell the 1922 committee members that they've been wrong all along, and need to see the error of their ways. The MPs will then realise their mistakes, and everything in the garden will come up smelling of roses. Probably.
From the linked article which should be read by those seeking deeper understanding of the Israeli/Palestinian conflict. "Their presence is viewed by most of the international community as a major obstacle to lasting peace, but until recently most focus has been on communities of houses rather than herder outposts. In September, the UN warned about rising settler violence targeting Palestinian herders and driving them from their homes and land." There's international condemnation also many Israelis object to the land grab and treatment of the Bedouins.
I like listening to this guy, mainly because he does actually know what he is talking about with regards to the EU and Brexit.
https://www.theguardian.com/politic...-cut-for-top-earners-after-byelection-defeats Genuinely in awe of the fact that the Conservative Party has constructed a reality in which the public has turned away from them because they haven't done enough to reduce the tax burden of the wealthy.
This is simply part of the long-term plan to remove the vote from anyone who earns less than £50,000 pa, thus guaranteeing a Conservative victory in every future election
They are in a chaotic mixture of desperately throwing **** at the wall to see what sticks, kowtowing to fringe extremists in the party to try and keep their government from collapsing, throwing goodies at themselves, their backers and their members while they are still in power and trying to salt the earth for a potential future Labour government and deliberately sabotaging the country in the process. Case in point - There is a cost of living crisis, the majority of the electorate are feeling the pinch and want solutions and a light at the end of the tunnel. So the cornerstone policy of the Conservative conference is.... cancelling the most significant infrastructure project in the country. Oh but you can't vote on it because they are enacting it immediately and selling all of the compulsory purchased property in a rush before the next election at a loss, because reasons.
