Agree, I've heard they tap the card reader with a nectar card and then walk away, staff from behind the bar cannot catch them as they disappear into the crowd.

Do people think any stadium investment should be done if we get promoted? So all funds should go towards the team in the Championship

I wouldn't be sweating on that at all. If anything like it ever happens, it would follow years of consistent PL achievement, not precede it.

Seems like a bad idea unless they're willing to adjust ticket prices to fill it accordingly.

I don't think it's an either/or situation. Regardless of which division we are in, there are immediate issues to address:

General state of the roof/stadium interior
    Size of concourses
    Smoking in toilets
    Turnstiles/East Stand Queues
    Public Address System
    Location of Club Shop
    Fanzone

Then, if promoted we could look at:
    Increased capacity

I don't think we necessarily have to sacrifice transfer funds by improving the stadium. It's up to KLD and Sartori if they want to fund this off-field issues as they don't count towards FFP etc

    2 totally different issues IMO
stadium expansion would be paid for by the club and would be funded by guarantees from the owners. transfer funds whilst generated by the club are in effect capped by FFP.
I have said before the club seem to be looking at the expansion/improvements as a way of future planning and I get some peoples reservations but the reality is that if our demand for tickets rises as we become successful then it would take a considerable amount of time to implement the expansion which in turn would mean lost revenue in the future. However if we expand now then we are ready if the demand is their. It really hinges on success and future planning. I have an optimistic view and believe we are on the right track to take the chances soon and prepare for more success in the future but still understand other peoples view of lets wait and see how it pans out. but unfortunately that may prove to be too late. On the other hand we may well not achieve our goals and have a stadium which is too big for us.
I tend to believe the former rather than the latter and am encouraged that the club are looking into this as an option as it hints at their ambitions for our club moving forwards

Thoughtful post. However, I've said before on here....the home atmosphere worries me at times. I am in the camp that expansion work should only start on the stadium when we are consistently selling out the current 48k and the demand for more tickets is tangible and consistent. To expand in anticipation runs the risk of us playing in front of a lot of empty seats...something I think we should try to avoid. We don't need to put the cart before the horse.
At the moment,we play in front of 40k-ish,apart from the handful of big draw matches. That figure needs to be 48k regularly imo.

As I've said before, the idiot who decided to move the 'away' fans away from the vociferous 'home' fans, thus ruining the atmosphere, should be the target of a firing squad.
The atmosphere worries me, too 'cos it isn't anywhere near what it used to be because of this idiocy, and that will only return when the 'away' fans are moved back to where they should be . . . . in the South West corner next to ours in the Roker End :emoticon-0148-yes:

Like I said I understand that totally but we are getting 40k in championship and will increase that again in premiership if and when we get there. If we were to become a successful premiership team where do you think our demand for tickets would be ? Don't get me wrong I get the hesitancy and I get the reasoning but I can also see the future benefit and the people like us in 5 years time blaming the club for not being forward thinking enough and not being prepared for the demand. being happy with what we have is fine but if you want more you have to plan for what you want to achieve. be proactive not reactive I guess.

I suppose it may depend on the length of time it would take to complete any expansion? I'm not a builder or an engineer, and have no clue.

There is also two different for expansion, if mainly for corporate type, we do need more places, daughters boss had box last season, gave it up, later tried to get a box again, all sold out, also for bigger concerts we might need better areas. Do we need more normal seats probably not yet.

I work in construction on large projects and the amount of pre construction work that has to be done before you even mobilise to site can become lengthy and convoluted even on smaller projects. Look at Everton's new stadium they have been trying to build that particular project for about 6 years and for one reason or another (planning issues, design issues, constructability issues, local objections, environmental issues, etc ect) and only started it recently. I know that is a full new build and ours is to update existing but there will still be some of the same issues to contend with.

You could do that but also move the kiosk openings to the other side. Would be much bigger area for food/beer, and the toilets could stay were they are on the original side. We should send the club an invoice for our design consultancy.

I sense a problem with your proposal,.
A number of the bricks could be obscured which may cause a problem with the people who paid for a brick.
Teamwork mate Teamwork, the club couldn't afford our fees

I suppose moving the bricks to the toilet walls wouldn't go over well. Fun this mind, stadium designing :emoticon-0100-smile

But I do think the bricks probs do have to be moved to use the expanded space well. I suppose to just where ever the new outside wall would be.

You are probably right about having to move the bricks, I was just trying to come up with a cheaper solution. However on balance this may compromise the aesthetics of the whole scheme.
