We listened to some obscure Dylan songs last night.

I know many people don't appreciate him but he's probably the most covered artist in history by other important artists ...

... everyone from Bowie to the Beatles, Hendrix to Coldplay and hundreds of others.

I think people would be shocked at some of the names, I doubt Adele or Miley Cyrus fans would even realise they've covered him.

Yes, Brian Ferry did a full album of Dylan covers.
I understand why people don't like Dylan, he's not exactly background music or elevator musak. But I can't get enough of his songs, they fascinated me, especially some of the background stories behind them.

He's not easy listening because his songs are about emotions, human frailty and our own mortality ...

... but his music will be used in films, documentaries, adverts forever more because they say something.

Huge artists, like Tina Turner, are good at what they do but their songs aren't covered because they're more about the performance than the content.

Having been to see Dylan live I can honestly say there's very little performance ...

... no rushing backwards and forwards across the stage, no asking the crowd to sing along and a distinct lack of gold sequinned miniskirts <laugh>

Think I've said it before but Dylan thought that was the best cover version of his

Blink 182 may not be everyone's cup of tea, but dear me, this one will hit so many people in different ways. Even though this song is about the 3 of them, enter self reflection and that phonecall you've been putting off.

    Wonderful.

As with many of the best songs it's the human condition summed up in very few words ...

... I'm very open with people and have no hesitation in telling people how I feel about them.

It's a risky strategy though, the truth is the last thing some want to hear. It reminds me of going to see Joe Cocker in Mantova, Italy ...

... his performance was so open and honest it made you feel like you were intruding on his privacy.

I agree with you mate, if you love someone tell them before it's too late.

    Evening Sir.

You have always came across as someone that speaks ones mind even if at the time could be seen as unpopular, and respect to you for that. As for "one more time", it genuinely stopped me in my tracks when it came on the radio at work. if no one knows, way back when, the lead singer became a dick and left the band, hence his opening verse. The second verse where he says "it shouldn't take a sickness or an airplane falling out the sky" is in reference to him getting cancer and the drummer surviving a plane crash. Was this the first time you've heard this song, mate?

I think my favourite somgs are when 'heavy' bands go acoustic and do a ballad. Green Day (good riddance / 21 Guns / ordinary world); metallica (nothing else matters); disturbed (sound of silence) are among my favourites.

I recently got myself a record player and the metallica S&M2 album arrived. A metal band, with one of the world's best classical orchestras playing live. Not everyone's cup of tea, but you can tell that everyone involved simply loves music. The musicianship is incredible

All quality music mentioned there Nuz. I'm late 30s and over the past few years I've leaned more toward rock (usually I'm an eclectic), but the older I'm getting I'm finding that Rock is the most pure, be it relationships, be it self reflection, be it telling you to open your mind, there's something for it all. There isn't many other styles of music that makes you clench your first, feel good or emotion like rock. ACDC, Metallica, Scorpions etc.

Thanks for your kind words and, yes, it's the first time I've been aware of it.

Some songs need a dozen listens to appreciate their beauty and meaning, this is instant.

Funny to watch this. Some of the orchestra look absolutely thrilled, others uncomfortable. The Metallica fans have no idea what to do. I love it, but it's an odd mix!

Well that's set me off. Music can be such an emotional thing. Just found out my dad has prostrate cancer tonight, which has already spread to the lymph glands. Sat with a glass of whisky, no idea about how to feel. Then some bastard plays this :emoticon-0137-clapp

Got to be up for work at 6. Not sure that's going to be fun!

I've seen that before and I think it's ****ing brilliant. Both the rock fans and classical orchestra fans should be proud of how they pulled that off. I really like it.
