Also - please please please can we stop starting Elliot in midfield. Our recent upturn in performances and results is because we had players who were not only good on the ball but are strong and quick. We can't accommodate Mac and Elliot, and then we wasted Dom out on the left side.
The kid is talented on the ball but he simply does not have the physical attributes for midfield. I was shocked that Klopp went with Trent and Elliot on that right side, especially against Brighton.
I'd have picked Enrique over Moreno every single day of the week. I'd have taken Traore over Moreno too
I really should ignore it but it's just so poor. Spurs are five points better off (imo) thanks to dubious refereeing decisions whereas we're five points worse of because of them. Not to mention Kovacic somehow avoiding red.
Riise was the man for a while Djimi wasn't "that bad" he was bambi on ice though. Aurelio was about for 6 years and injured all the time but would have been "the man" Dossena was **** Insua was poor Kon-bloody-cheskey just didn't try, got the hump and sulked Enrique was a good upgrade on nobody Moreno didn't replace enrique, he was unopposed due to enrique knee issues. Milner replaced Moreno Robertson fought off milner and took the shift for his own. Its not like we've really been blessed in this position. I'd contend moreno wasn't the worst in that list.
I didn't see the game only the stills of the 2 Kovacic tackles and they looked similar to Jones's. I'm not even going to ask if the VAR only showed the stills.
because of international travel. they play PERU in lima on Wednesday and as we all know thats an away trip for him as well. If i were you lot i'd be checking who we play after the November international window and how sky manage to get that to sat 12:30 as brazil play argentina on the wednesday then as well I'll give you a clue. their manager is the worst sore loser since Mourinho.
The first was a straight red, much wise than Jones'. At least Jones attempted to get the ball, Kovacic just hacked the player down from behind, twice. I don't know what VAR watched but suspected it wasn't the Kovacic challenges
When comparing full backs, we also have to look at the team they were in. Moreno wasn't great but he certainly wasn't helped playing next to Lovren and little protection ahead of him.
I liked Insua, think he was better overall, certainly better defensively. I'll give you Dossena TBF, probably on par with Moreno
Why 5 points? Genuine question. I get you believe either 2 or 3 points from our game with you but confused about the rest tbh. We drew with Brentford where they got a softish penalty via VAR. We beat united who should have had a penalty for handball but we should have got a penalty for a foul so that evened itself out. Bournemouth and Burnley weren't controversial at all. We beat Sheffield United. We drew with Arsenal with them getting a handball penalty which in some cases VAT hasn't given. We won at the weekend and the ref disallowed a luton goal for a definite foul on the defender...Luton didn't complain. Like I said genuine question.
I agreed with the red for Jones (probably no real surprise) but nothing will persuade me VAR or the ref got it right with Kovacic.
I think the Jones one was harsh, it was a yellow imo, but it's a subjective decision and it's one that can go either way, and pales into insignificance with the offside shambles. I'd have accepted it more if Hooper had given it at the time, but he gave a yellow, and VAR called him to review and showed him footage heavily weighted to make him change his mind. Yes, I'm a Liverpool fan, but I'm also a supporter of fair play and justice - I think VAR should stop showing these stills and slo-mo reels that make things look worse than they are. Real-time replays first- at better angles than the ref had - would be a better way of helping him come to a fair conclusion, then slo-mo and stills if he's still unsure. I was out and missed the Kovacic ones - I'll have to take a look.
There are lots of little things that don't get attention that affect results like the fact it wasn't even a free kick leading to Brighton's second. On the Spurs game, which I didn't watch but had a look because there was mention of a bit of controversy. A corner taken with a rolling ball should be brought back and retaken. Both things rarely happen ie. rolling ball and retake so they go virtually unnoticed. As I said, minor issues leading to big(ish) consequences. They happen to all teams all the time. The bottom line is we have officials not fit for purpose and a system in VAR which was supposed to help but being in the hands of the very same officials, makes it not fit for purpose either.
