what I will say is that if you want to play a ball over the top it's very difficult when all your forwards are dropping deep and trent is stood facing the wrong way waiting for a pass to feet. tactically this game was poor. we changed shape in the game and got it right and then reverted to that **** most of the second half.
Seriously don't know what you're watching with this, it's very rare for him to be facing the wrong way (when central) He always looks forward first but the problem he's getting is the opposition know we're looking at him to create and they close him very quickly.
Not to sure what to make of yesterday. Performance seemed quite flat, compared to previous games, similar to the European game, just do enough to win, rather than flying at the opposition. Both teams lacked quality, Brighton put a bit more effort in though. When we did push, we looked to cut them open easily, but that effort didn't continue. Odd more than anything, considering the previous league games where I've been very impressed.
Look at the game, when matip/konate and vvd had the ball where is is stood? half the time he's 10 yards in front looking at them. he should be stood where.matip/konate are taking it and looking to ping at salah and nunez. I'll bet you Brighton drop off and stop pressing when the ball is bypassing them. he did this after about 20mins in first half but stopped
Couple of tough games out of the way, disappointing to throw the 3 points away but to be 1 point off city after 8 can’t games is fine given the changes we’ve had to endure. 3 home games out of the next 4 in the league so hopefully can put a nice run together after the break. To the game itself: Very strange one, when we put a bit of pace and movement in they simply couldn’t handle it, but we revert to this City style nonsense of keep ball until we get caught (as shock horror, we aren’t as good as them at doing it). No idea why we aren’t sticking with what we do best when it’s causing issues
I’m sure if he was stood in the wrong position klopp would have mentioned it. He’s obviously in the right position according to klopps tactics
Well kon-bloody-checky isn't a factor as enique was the actual full back moreno was bought to replace. moreno wasn't "that bad" he was the Spanish luke shaw. braindead but willing.
Nobody said he was And Moreno was that bad. Could defend for **** and then would five in to try and make amends, either completely missing out hacking the opponent down. He had a reputation for being good going forward but he wasn't, he was just quick and direct.
which is like shaw. Pace makes up for a lot. Kon-bloody-chesky was a dick head who played a total of 15 games for us. enrique was also a poor enough defender imo but at least he played 99 games for LFC over 5 years and moreno played 141 games for us so they are more comparible. Moreno was as bad as djimi traore, his badness is not in question here. Its just that a special places in scouse hell is reserved for paul kon-bloody-cheskey. he simply didn't bother to try.
Every time we sped up our play we caused them problems unfortunately it only happened in for a few short bursts.
Yep, was really frustrating. Just knocking it about without real intent at Brighton when 2-1 up is not our game.
it felt like a tired showing didn't it? I felt the forwards were on empty after 60mins. Salah was 100%
it felt like we just needed to mix it up a bit. Brighton play a high line but that don’t have quick defenders. Veltman and dunk aren’t quick and all 3 of diaz Nunez and Salah can outrun them. Not sure why we didn’t play a few balls in behind and get them rubbing backwards. Even if they don’t come off, it would give them something to think about and maybe back off a few extra yards which would allow the balls into the forwards feet more. We do seem to not want to play the ball into Nunez chest from the defence. Although he sometimes is a bit flailing and doesn’t look in control, he’s big and strong and can hold off defenders to then play off like he did against wolves.
The result feels different because of the Spurs debacle last week. A draw away at Brighton isn't a bad result. We've only played 3 home games so far and 5 tricky aways so, all in all, the points total is looking good. Should have been red for Gross but it feels pointless pointing out referees inconsistencies every week now.
I liked moreno, mostly down to the fact that even rushing into my 40s I thought if he can get a run out for Liverpool then I've still got a chance.
Disappointing to have dropped points but a point away from Brighton isn't the worst - they are a good team. We should have killed the game in the second half but Brighton could have easily done the same, so a draw is a fair result. Attack should have done better however the defending really let us down again - we may not have conceded too many goals this seasons but we are conceding a LOT of chances each game. I don't think the tactical set up helps the defence but we need to look at personnel - no number 6, and Robbo being a liability is not helping. Intl break has come at a welcome time - we get Jota back, hopefully Thiago / Baj / Gakpo will all be back from injury as well.
