Id love the respect shown in Rugby too but as Postecoglou mentioned it won’t work in football. Explaining decisions could double the length of some games…football’s attraction is the fast pace and lack of stoppages. I’d rather deal with encroaching the referee and dissent more harshly BUT be consistent with it. Referees should be asked to explain the lack of consistency after a game to try and stamp it out.
Having slept on it, I still think we should be speaking officially to the EFL about this bloke's performance. He'll do something similar somewhere and cause a riot. I can remember seeing a ref in Scotland get pelted with coins during an old firm game and thinking he deserved it because of his ludicrous bias and how brazen he was about it. We'll be getting the same here before too long.
Football has a different intensity and history about it. It's like asking why rugby players can't be more like tennis players and not punch and bite other players or try to clothesline their heads off. It seems this referee has come from a background of croquet rather than football ... ... it's pathetic and he should be sitting there today wondering if he could've been more sensible.
Nowt will happen though. They'll close ranks around him and he'll be put quietly on another duty, like I've said before VAR or fourth official, out of the way for a couple of weeks for it to blow over. And his next matches refereed will be lower profile games. It'll only be if he does another high profile cock up in a big game that he'll get noticed.
The referee is an absolute clown. His entire performance was dreadful (for both teams), he let a load of things go and then punished innocuous tackles. He played advantages without going back to book players and he missed an elbow. To get all precious about a player shouting "that's a ****ing foul ref" and ruin the entire game is pathetic. This bloke has previous for it, and what's really disgraceful is that we have to put up with a ****e referee after he's been demoted for being rubbish in the Premier League. If that is the standard for "dissent", then there will be 5 red cards a match... but of course we know it isn't, despite being told to accept the decision.
Dan Neil = idiot. Whilst I agree he was correct in that it was a foul he should not have given the ref the opportunity to give him the red especially as he was already on a booking. The ref = incompetent c*nt. Completely and utterly out of his depth and biased. JC was fouled on numerous occasions and fk all happened. Thought we had weathered their 10 mins and we were getting on top the last 15 mins of the half. I believe 11 v 11 we would have won. Its a blip. We move on.
Funnily enough Wigan got about 11 yellow cards yesterday and a fair few soft ones for dissent. But there’s absolutely no consistency whatsoever I was watching Leicester last week I think it was and Jamie Vardy called the linesman f**king pr*ck yet received no card. I’m still not entirely sure questioning a decision is even a bookable offence it’s ridiculous, these blokes aren’t refereeing a game of bingo at the local care home these men are athletes some of them playing at the very top level of a physical sport for 90 gruelling minutes. If they think a decision against them is unjust then the referee should be able to explain why it’s given. Of course bad language is going to be used during the match it’s just natural, a lot of people swear in conversation more often than not.
Agreed. The thing that is still annoying me about yesterday (apart from Roberts not scoring when he was in on goal) is the way we capitulated in the 2nd half. It's almost as if the players and the manager accepted the defeat as an inevitability as soon as Neil was dismissed. I find it bizarre that we took Burstow off and then proceeded to lump balls up to Ba and Roberts. Leaving Jobe on his own in midfield was a mistake and a different manager (Warnock for example) would have 2 banks of 4 defending on the edge of the box and making life difficult for Boro - it wouldn't have been pretty to watch but we might have sneaked a point with a but more pragmatism
The ****in arsehole. If every player gets booked from now on then fair enough but they won’t. Is it cos he questioned the referee, swore or waved his arms. He spoiled a good game. How many fouls went unpunished against us in the first half, the bloke was incompetent and shouldn’t referee next time out. Boro didn’t mess about after the break and went for it, fair enough. We’ll bounce back and continue with our good start with hopefully a few injured players back.
Pathetic. Unfortunately for Dan passion is being removed from the game by these bell ends who want it to be all about them.
