Historically true this. But the Arabs are no longer a club, so it could be said that Boro are the nearest there is to a derby now. I just don't count that lot up there.
I definitely don't count the Saudi mob. Guess we'll just have to engineer a faux rivalry with whoever is battling us for promotion...............or Stoke, when we play them in the Alex Neil derby

A touch of nostalgia, when I read that notice from The Club. My attention was grabbed by the bit about No Pubs in The City Centre were prepared to serve M/Boro Fans. (But The Club was kindly opening the turnstiles early and The Concourse Bars would be open) This took me back to 1960, a Round 4 FA Cup game at Anfield. This was the first away game I attended. The bus dropped everybody off at The Liverpool Supporters Club for pre match drinks. We were all told, quite rightly it turned out, that we would be warmly welcomed. As it happened, we won 2 -0, Ian Lawther getting both goals. To ME, this is another example of 'The Old Days' being better.
i don't mind the smoggies to be honest, home games against them are never good though as usually a battle of two decent teams not giving an inch...the fans will have a daft half hour about their 'rivalry' up the stairs but always found them to be ok. worked with some a while back and they can take the banter and give plenty back without getting all 'mag-ish'.
Makes me laugh when our fans say they don’t care about them, but then sing we hate Boro at every game.
To be honest it must be a new thing cos I always thought it was a derby through the 70s 80s and 90s. At the least it’s a bigger game than most with plenty needle. I’ve worked with loads and they’re spot on when it comes to football. Militant as **** though, and shy of a full shift.
60/61 season so it would have been in 1961, (failing memory on my part) and Shankly was their manager and it was the following Season when they got promoted, back to the First Division. But The Kop was building reputation as the noisiest Fans in The Country. We were in the Anfield Road End and (I'm convinced), out sang them.
It has always been a derby in my opinion. Not as big as the mags, but a derby for sure. Back in the ayresome park days you knew it was an away derby and it meant a lot.
Aye that annoys me because I don’t hate boro and I hate the scum being mentioned now too there dead to me.
