I agree he's greatly improved our squad, but like you say it matters on the pitch & results need to turn around. Despite what Bruce says we've not started well.
I believe that we (short)are currently running the club on a tight fiscal basis and will not spend much more than we get in from sales......on this basis do you realy think MON will come to manage us.............i for one do not! .....he also apears very honourable and will not do the dirty on a "sitting" manager...therefore we will have to sack bruce then go calling on him.....i just do not think that short works in that way and he is happy for mid table mediocracy....and i think that bruce can manage that......i as a fan am not happy with this, but its the situation we find ouselves in.
A couple of days ago, the head gasket on my Punto blew. I have three options; continue driving with it until the engine inevitably explodes, pay the 600 quid to replace it, adding onto the money already paid for new tyres, brakes and exhaust (the car was only £500 to begin with). Alternatively, I could look for another car, a more reliable car and one that won't just be a large drain of money. I think Bruce at the moment is like this, I'm choosing option 3 for the car, and am inclined to do the same for Bruce.
and the winner is?......again who is going to come given the financial constraints...its easy to critique, but its a lot harder to provide workable solutions.. so jersey...... who do you honestly will come and do any better.
Put yourself in Ellis Shorts Position though. Bruce has made him 7 million (or broke even at least) over 6 transfer windows, 3 years and bought a whole new team, and finished 10th last year and has a lot better squad than when Short took control. Thats not a bad man to have in my book from a business point of view, Short is probably loving it tbh. its just most of the fans that are not.
I'm having the same issue with the car, there are a couple that look good, but they're too expensive for my needs. There are lots that are very cheap, but it might just blow up again. You need to find a balance, a 'middle way' if you like. But one thing's for certain, and that is if I continue using this car it will blow up and crash sooner or later.
earth to jersey..earth to jersey......I "if you sack him....... he will come" (sorry kevin)......who do you think will come jersey...put away those childlike parables and answer the question please.....who can we afford..and who do you think will come.

I'd love to know where this notion that Martin o Neill only manages clubs that give him fortunes to spend? At wycombe, Norwich, leicester and Celtic he didn't have a big budget at all and operated with it very successfully, winning trophies as well. Only at villa did the budget increase and only when randy lerner went back on his word about that money was there trouble between the two. If you really think Martin o neill would turn an opportunity to manage us given that call, then you're dafter than you seem chimera. We are precisely what he is actually waiting for. A premiership club with a vacancy. It may well be wigan, blackburn, Bolton or wolves if not us but trust me, this club will absolutely rue the day we lose the chance to get him here.
Very rarely comment but read this forum a few times every day. It is very interesting reading the various opinions on Bruce. I was quite cinfident that he was steadily taking us in the right direction. Unfortunately, things he said just before the last derby match finished him with me. He was quoted as saying that he hated derby matches. I can understand him feeling like that but to come out and say it surely proves his lack of motivational knowledge. On the other side Pardew was quoted as saying he couldn't wait till saturday. I am ashamed to admit I backed Sunderland to lose that match and, despite winning a good sum of money, was disappointed to realise that Bruce will never be a good man manager. That day he looked like a rabbit in the headlights whilst Pardew was clearly revelling in it. The players , on both sides, responded and we never looked like scoring. Pardew has them playing with belief and they are playing beyond all expectations of them. The sooner Bruce goes the better. I hope I am wrong but we may well be in for hammering today-but oh I hope I am wrong!!!
so cesti,, its MON then....why did he leave villa? how much did he spend at villa?(every irish kid wants to manage either celtic or the huns its in their blood)and more importantly what did the villa fans think of him before he left ......Has MON like cloughy not turned us down in the past. Every man if they are being honest is dafter than he thinks he is (its an ego thinng) but MON will not come to sunderland without a budget ..simply with all the disrespect to his previous clubs (not villa celtic )the pressure is to great without something to work with........he simply does not need the hassle when there may be better options on the table......would you come to sunderland without a decent budget especially if there are other oppertunities on the table.......well if the answer is yes ....well you are dafter than you appear....ps i disagree with you cest about mon.................... short will not sack bruce as long as mid table is achievable ...so bruce will only go when we are in crisis..and MON will not come then....and its impossible to say what could have been.........like the myth of cloughie coming to sunderland it makes a good story if you are into fantasy..we will never know where we would be now if cloughy had come and it is the same for MON...however it does keeps the pedastal makers in work.
An excellent metaphorical analogy. I would of thought you were more of a Blue Oyster Jung than a Pink Freud!
Retrospectively, I'm sure the Villa fans would of hoped they could have finished as high in the league subsequent to Martin O'Neill leaving as they were consistently finishing before he left. Also, you talk about not having a budget at SAFC. Where exactly will ANY manager of ANY club have a budget beyond what most others can offer with the new fair play rules now being active? Champions league clubs aside (and if the Eurocrats have their way they won't be playing in the premier league for much longer) football is returning to a level playing field where managers will have to prove their true abilities just like they did in the good old days, as opposed to spending their way to success. The clubs with the biggest stadiums and best marketing strategy will have a few million more than those that don't and taking into consideration Sunderlands infrastructure, why would Martin O'Neill not choose Sunderland if we were to be offerred the managers job?
F*ck me - MON again. The most negative manager I have known. I am truly pig sick of the same old BoBs, droning on about the same old f*cking sh7te. Get behind the team man - if we lose the next few he'll be gone anyway. For those who think MON is the answer - you are in cloud f*cking cuckoo land, IMO like. Bart
Its not really about the biggest stadiums though, it can also depend on the part of the country you are from and how succesful you have been, Newcastle charge more than us so even if we both filled out the stadia, they would make more, Stoke charge more than us, they have a smaller stadia, but if both sold out, the income would be very similar. And pretty sure in the good old days we were classed as the Bank of England Club, so not sure how it was all a level playing field, even back then, and it still wont be a lvl playing field. Man U Man City Arsenal Spurs Liverpool Newcastle Villa will all have a bigger turnover than us (and Man U by a very large margin, probably around 140million a year better turnover) and there may even be more, but cant be bothered to go looking. Advertisemet is going to be all over the stadia, name changes of the stadia, even change the team name and colours eventually to suit the sponser that has just ploughed millions in the club, and thats just to try to catch up, never mind actually catch up. Match day tickets will go up, if Fulham as an example, will charge £70 for a ticket, then we will have to follow suit eventually and charge £50-£60 for a bog standard seat, which will price the working man out of the game even more (its too expensive as it is if we are honest about it) but fans still go as they have for years, but there is only so much they will stand for. In 1 fell swoop this FFP rule has made football like the net, ads galore, problem is, you cant download adblock+ to block them when it happens in RL. also there is no reason why he wouldnt choose Sunderland, apart from the fact 6 other teams at least (its probably closer to 15) in the PL have a better turnover than us.
Won the league cup twice with Leicester City... Firstly in 1997 and again in 2000 whilst they were also runners up in 1999. Turned Leicester City into a consistent mid-table premier league club who were very difficult to beat. Top 6 throughout his time with Aston Villa.... Martin O'Neill isn't the answer for a club like Sunderland? I think your the one living in cloud cuckoo land!
And the most dire football that you will ever watch.................. All the BoBs go on about is SBs negative football - well I hate to think what they would say if MON was in charge. For any doubters - have a chat with a few Villa or Celtic fans. Some of you BoBs need to get into the real world and get behind the players we have got now, instead of moaning the same old f*cking song all the f*cking time. Its so monotonous - a bit like MON, the wee irish boring t w a t Bart
The same Celtic fans who watched their club finish 2nd to Rangers for 9 consecutive seasons between 1989-1997 and then once again in 1999, then went on two watch them win the league 3 times out of the next 5 seasons with O'Neill in charge? If Celtic fans don't appreciate a man coming in and breaking a stranglehold of that magnitude then I doubt 'they' would be happy with anything. I've spoken to 2 Leicester fans and they look back upon their time in the same way most of us do with Peter Reid, except they have the clubs name etched not once but twice into some silverware to warm their memories too. What have Leicester achieved since O'Neill departed? Perhaps this reveals a story? Our opinions differ so much that I can only assume you believe that Bruce is doing a good job at Sunderland too? As Bertie highlights, it's not asthough we are watching fantastic football today, is it?
