No, they are not stopping eating meat, they are not eating meat in the first place and so conditioning their diet to overconsume and overcompensate with carbohydrate, which is causing weight gain and diabetes. Generally if you eat more protein, you don't want as much carbohydrate, so lose fat, hence why keto/caveman diets work. Because of the modern production of fast food/cheaper carb overload options, diabetes is increasing because of the ease of access to it and lower cost... it didn't exist before. Excessive carbohydrates cause diabetes, not excessive protein or fat - this was a mistake made by scientists/doctors in the 1990s that lead to worsening levels of diabetes. I don't know how you get exact percentages of vegetarianism levels in India.. it's over 1 billion ppl. We can agree to disagree on this and both walk away thinking we are in the right
Generally if you eat more protein, you don't want as much carbohydrate yes diabetes comes from sugar but eating meat certainly does not make you immune from diabetes especially modern diets is that why in the west diabetes is an epidemic? all those super healthy vegans obviously and not overweight, takeaway and sugary drink and beer drinkers is it mate
You're taking my initial reasoning why vegan diets aren't good for everyone and turning into that I'm stating that vegan diets cause diabetes. This isn't what I've ever stated and I have said that it's an individual thing and some ppl respond very well to them. My point is that for some, vegan diets aren't good, because the protein need is replaced/substituted by over compensation of carbohydrates and so they put on unhealthy weight. This lead on to me stating that for many with type 2 diabetes, a diet with more animal protein and less carbohydrate can reverse their condition. Others, such as Dennis, do not have this problem and benefit from it. Nutritional requirement and diet are dependent on the individual.. there isn't a one fits all fix.
This is complete bollocks, not even a bit contentious, it’s the exact opposite of what’s happening…so no, I won’t agree to disagree. You said earlier that more people in India were becoming diabetic because they were ‘protein deficient’ because they didn’t eat meat for religious reasons. “India has one of the highest levels of diabetes and resulting deaths/disabilities due to the replacement of protein food sources with carbohydrates (because of religious based vegetarian diets), which could be seen as protein deficiency.” The % of people on vegetarian diets has reduced since 2018. According to your ‘logic’ that would mean that diabetes would be reducing, not increasing. However it is increasing…in line with meat eating. The reason isn’t meat specifically of course, but it certainly shows your logic is upside down. Diabetes is increasing (and meat eating is increasing) in India, because they are a successful economy, so people have money and are therefore bigger targets for advertising, and their diet is becoming more Westernised as a result. They’re eating more meat, and eating and drinking more sugar and processed food. Quelle surprise diabetes is increasing as a result
exactly the vast majority of people who eat meat are not eating, say a traditional Mediterranean diet, they are eating modern western diets, which has meat with lots of processed food, which has a lot of sugar and other **** in it
Anyone on here run and have any knowledge of ITBS? I have never ‘been for a run’ in my life until last week. Trying to crash off as much weight as possible in 3 weeks. Started doing 3km and 3.5km last week on my missis walking treadmill which has given me the pain as it’s not big enough to take a proper stride on. Planning on doing 4km outdoors every day this week and 5km every day next week. It’s only mild, knee feels fine once I’m moving about and doesn’t hurt whilst running, but does flare up when resting getting quite stiff after a long sit down and in the morning after being asleep. Any serious damage likely to occur if I continue and, if so, anyone have any alternative ideas for decent cardio not involving my legs with no equipment.
I do lots of running, built up from where you are now to doing marathons and ultramarathons. Sounds a bit to me like it might be a case of building up too fast - make sure you build in rest days. Also can't emphasise enough the importance of a decent pair of cushioned trainers, you can pick some up scond hand easy enough off eBay or Vinted if budget is a problem but these do wonders to prevent injury.
Sorry yeah, 2-3 rest days per week. I’m not unfit or a couch slouch either. I’m an active person just never been a runner. The 3>3.5>4 was supposed to be the build up. I may carry on doing 5km runs after but this is purely a last minute weight cut attempt ahead of a climbing trip where the climbing is steep and fingery and excess weight is really not helpful. So I’m eating a calorie deficit and trying to burn as much as I reasonably can.
Bit of an update from me…almost 1 month in & the App stretches / exercises have worked. I’ve moved down 2 belt holes, clothes don’t feel tight. I’m going to continue for another month. Tummy is noticeably smaller. Haven’t changed my diet, have ditched the lager & cut back on wine, but have increased the gin consumption! So maybe that would impact too
All sounds sensible enough to me, though I've never found running to be great for weight loss - I run over 40 miles a week and am still a bit overweight, though in combination with the diet you should be all good. Obviously I'm in no way medically trained but the volume / short-term aspect that you describe doesn't suggest you'll be in danger of long term injury. Ice and elevation on anything sore after a run will certainly help.
I had that and GTPS all caused by overuse of one side of hip cutting a hedge as right handers all lean the same way pressing one hip doing it , then I pulled the grandkids on a zip wire about 40 times and again leaning or pushing off the same hip the next day ! It’s overuse of underprepared ageing parts of your body . Took 6 weeks of specific exercises to put right - not come back but I’d do a lot if gym and back work now
