Good Morning. It's Tuesday 3rd October, and here are the latest headlines from Elland Road Farke didn't want to embarrass players with HT changes Leeds Manager Daniel Farke felt he would be throwing his players under the bus had he made half-time substitutions last weekend at St Mary's. Speaking after the game, the Leeds gaffer admitted that he wanted to spare his players feeling, and give them an opportunity to put things right, therefor more or less sacrificing the game to spare his players feelings. Most Championship outfits would give their eye teeth to have the option Leeds had on their bench at the weekend, yet Farke waited until the 73rd minute before making any changes. Back in 2005, Leeds famously came from 3-0 down to beat Southampton 4-3 at that very ground! “I got the feeling I didn’t have to do a bit more with the attitude or with the mentality [of the players],” “It was more like I want to give the players a chance to show a reaction because if you go back into the dressing room at half-time, you are 3-0 down, it's always difficult. “I didn't want to show there is, with two or three substitutions, these two or three players were crucial for being back (behind) that much. I didn't want to embarrass them. “I want to give the whole team the chance to show a reaction. That's what they did because I didn't have the feeling after the first half there are one or two players just to blame. “It was more like, as a team, we could have been a bit more sharper and a bit more aware and the lads showed a good reaction. Sadly, it was not enough to turn the game completely.” please log in to view this image Will Rodon be recalled for the visit of QPR Daniel Farke created quite a stir last weekend when Joe Rodon was benched during Leeds visit to St Mary's last weekend, after serving his one match suspension following his sending off at Hull. It's very easy to criticise, especially with the benefit of hindsight. Farke believed it would have sent the wrong message to the dressing room, had he changed the team, especially after a glowing performance against Watford the week before. The German needs to decide whether to recall Rodon for the visit of Queens Park Rangers on Wednesday evening, and if he does, will it be seen as an admission of fault, for not recalling him at Southampton? please log in to view this image Jaidon Anthony 'really enjoying' his ER experience Jaidon Anthony spoke with team-mate Max Aarons about Daniel Farke before agreeing his season long loan to Elland Road, late on deadline day almost five weeks ago. Arrons had worked under Daniel Farke at Norwich, and gave the German a glowing reference, telling Anthony that he'd (Farke) would be perfect for his style of play. The former Norwich right wing back came close to joining the Whites this Summer, but the move was hijacked when the Cherries found out about the proposed move. Anthony has settled in well in West Yorkshire, and is probably unlucky not to have been given more game time. He has made four substitute appearances, chalking up 75 minutes of game time, scoring once. He was quick to praise Farke, saying that he was one of the most detailed managers he had worked with, and that he is enjoying his Leeds Utd experience. “Obviously it's early weeks, but he's [Farke] one of the most detailed managers I've worked with. "The meetings are very long and he plans out exactly what he wants us to do. Then it's up to us as players, we have a lot of options when we're on the pitch and know where each other should be. "It's then down to us to put it into practice and we'll see if we can create from the positions he's in. He's very detailed in what he wants and I'm having to learn a lot quickly. "Obviously he's been so successful in this division before and I spoke a bit with Max Aarons who is at Bournemouth now and he only spoke highly of him. "He said he'd be perfect for my play style and that I could learn a lot from him. "I'm seeing that already and hopefully I can continue improving as a player and have some great success with this team. Training is very intense." "The staff are very demanding but I'm used to that from my time at Bournemouth, there's a culture there as well in the way they train. It's been hard for a few years and I had a good pre-season in fairness so I came in and was ready to go. "I've enjoyed it and it's been intense but I've really enjoyed it." So far Anthony has made four appearances for Leeds, scoring once." please log in to view this image
No hindsight needed for the majority of fans. Plenty on here were stating that Rodon had to come in. Farke messed up. From my point of view (and I said this multiple times last week) it was obvious that we would need Rodons pace against Southampton. Ironically we could have played the Struijk/Cooper partnership against QPR if he wanted to rotate players.
Morning all Leeds fans. Is it just me, or is Farke telling everyone that he didn't make any half-time changes because he didn't want to embarrass the players, ultimately embarrasing them anyway? Better to just say he wanted to give them a chance to make up for it in the second half. I don't know, maybe it's just a language/cultural difference and he didn't intend it to come out that way. Been mightily impressed with the way Farke has spoken about the club, fans, players so far so maybe this is just me nitpicking so I'll let it go!
Morning all. Farkes been spot on in everything he's done up to the Southampton game. I had a hectic weekend, didn't see all of second half and heard no pressers but Im a bit worried if he said he said he was afraid of hurting players feelings. I hope that was taken out of context but doesn't sound great even in the present climate where you can't hurt anyones feelings. Maybe it's a Fifa ruling that players must not be upset in any way. Edit I was typing almost same time as DL and didn't intend to copy post. Sorry DL if Ive upset or embarrassed you
Farke simply said he wanted to give the guys the opportunity to turn it around and nothing at all about embarrassing them. Too much spin everywhere these days unfortunately.
It must be a nightmare for some managers doing pressers or players after match interviews. Have to watch every word they said. I don’t remember did the Don ever do much media nonsense. Suppose wasn’t a thing then
looks like our norman will be reunited with an old adversary after the passing of franny lee.....seconds out round two, a golden age of football that is losing the combatants of yesteryear as age catches up, so many great players now sadly gone...R.I.P. ............Ok fran, we'd better wait till the big man has gone out
Morning all I hope we see a lot more of Anthony and it would be nice to see his parent club relegated so that we can get him on the cheap, maybe offer them a swap with Sini Glad he is enjoying his time here, the QPR game can't come quick enough, we need to rectify and make the Southampton game just a memory rather than a talking point
When we didn't make any half time changes, we may have well conceded the game then. We probably have the strongest bench in the Championship. I know that coming from 3-0 down is a big ask, but at least give it a go.
There's plenty of managers/coaches who select the same starting eleven after a defeat and tell them to go out there and put it right. Not saying that I personally agree with that or not making any changes at HT but we have to trust the guy in charge and let him manage in his own way. Also our problems at Southampton were defensive and as we didn't concede and actually won the second half some might we improved after half time. It's all about tomorrow now and getting the right result.
Just caught a headline there, but can't access the story as I've got an ad blocker. The daily mail are reporting that we've been party to a letter sent to Everton's new owners, along the lines that we'll sue them for £300m if they are found guilty of FFP breaches. Perhaps someone could explode this link so we can all read it .... https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/f...y-breaking-Premier-League-spending-rules.html
There you go WJ Everton’s proposed sale to 777 Partners has suffered another potential setback with three of their rivals informing the American investment firm that they intend to sue the club for £300million if they are found guilty of breaching spending rules later this month. Mail Sport has learned that Burnley, Leeds and Leicester have written a joint letter to 777 asking them if they are aware of their plans to sue Everton pending the outcome of a Premier League independent tribunal on 25 October. The trio’s letter to 777 was initially addressed to the Premier League, who are understood to have replied acknowledging the correspondence and stating they will pass on the information to Everton’s would-be new owners. The three clubs are unhappy that Everton’s charges were not dealt with last season as they believe the delay may have helped Everton escape relegation by avoiding a points deduction, with Leeds and Leicester going down on the last day of the season as Sean Dyche’s side survived by two points. Mail Sport revealed before the end of last season that five clubs (also including Southampton and Nottingham Forest) had written to the Premier League arguing that they would deserve compensation if Everton were found guilty, and the matter has now been escalated ahead of the independent hearing. Burnley, Leeds and Leicester have formally written to the Premier League notifying them of their intention to sue, with the clubs understood to be ready to claim £100million each based on the loss of top-flight income for one season. Burnley were relegated from the Premier League the previous season when Everton’s spending also attracted complaints after they recorded three-year rolling losses of £372m, although the club avoided being charged due to being permitted allowances attributed to Covid. Forest and Southampton are understood to have withdrawn from the anti-Everton alliance, as the former stayed in the Premier League whilst the latter finished 11 points behind fourth-bottom Everton so would not have survived even if the Goodison Park club had been docked points. Everton were charged by the Premier League in March after publishing updated accounts for last season, showing a £313.5m loss for the previous three years. Profit & Sustainability rules prohibit clubs losing more than £105m over a three-year period, although spending on infrastructure, women’s football and community projects are deducted from the calculations. Clubs can also claim allowances for losses directly attributable to Covid. In their most recent accounts, Everton say Covid losses amounted to £90.4m over the last three years, although that only brings their total loss down to £223.1m — well over the limit. Any legal action from other clubs would be serious blow to 777’s plans to buy Everton, which is already under scrutiny due to unanswered questions over the source and sufficiency of their funding. The Miami-based investment firm have loaned Everton around £20m to help with cash-flow issues after agreeing a deal in principle to buy the club from Farhad Moshiri last month, but the club remain in a perilous financial position which would be exacerbated by a lengthy court case. Moshiri has made it clear he will not provide any more funding after spending over £750m during a turbulent seven-year period in charge, while the club also have to find around £300m to complete the building of their new stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock.
Not necessarily. We took 1 point from 6 off Everton last season. A 5 point swing would have taken us above Everton and Leicester. But then again, Leicester took 4 points from 6 off the cheating basterds so they could also potentially have had another 2 points themselves, leaving them above us on goal difference. The argument is there that Everton broke the rules and had an unfair advantage, but even so, only one of Leeds and Leicester would have escaped relegation so could both clubs argue they are owed £100M ? It'll never happen but it might make Everton sweat a bit and could potentially make the Premier League take some sort of action.
