he scored a deflected goal that he's very fortunate to be awarded because it was going miles wide, and a tap (fair play for him to getting in there) - I do feel he's in the team because of his legs and ability to help the left back out more than anything else, as going forward, I think he's very limited. The team has looked miles better with him playing further forward, more as a result of Morton alongside Seri, than anything Slater has done. He's often the one we find when beating the press and his decision-making is very poor.
Slater - both last season and this - has often been the one trying to drag us up the pitch when we have been slow coming out of defence. Maybe that's one of the "Unseen" things he does.
Commented on it after - I think - the Leeds game, that he was one of only a few really driving us forward trying to make something happen. People moan about him but then he's one of the few doing what they actually want the team doing!
I think the majority of ‘unseen’ things he does is fail to make the right pass/decision at the right time in forward areas 2/3 times every game. He’s got legs and energy to carry the ball and is clearly game, but comfortably below the quality of Seri/Morton/Tufan/Troare in my opinion
You could level that accusation at others - not just Slater. Did Philogene make the right pass / decision every time on Saturday? Did Traore? or Vinagre? I think they were all equally as culpable as Slater if not more so.
I think Slater does more than he gets credit for and I've often stuck up for him, but I actually thought he was terrible in the first half on Saturday.
Slater's the new Ashbee. Different positions, but gets a lot of flack for doing the unseen stuff well.
No fair point, I don't think either did, but I think, especially in the case of Troare as they're both midfielders, he looks to do the right thing more often than not, even if he doesn't always execute it. More worrying, Slater fails to see what the right thing is far too often. 2/3 times against Stoke he could've looked forward to Philogene and he didn't see the pass. Equally, we beat the press Saturday, one of the few occasions where we've sucked them in and played through them, and he's got options on either side and he drags a shot wide. I think Slater is a better Docherty. Legs/heart/and can carry the ball, but his decision-making is poor and he's one-dimensional.
Did not watch the game but is beggars belief that people want us to go back to Hoof ball. If you compare how we where under Shota and Grant to where we are now the difference can be measured in light years. Think it was under Shota when we won 1 0 against Bournemouth at home but we were under the cosh for the whole game with our backs to the wall. That has never happened under LR and at times we have played some incredible football to the extent that opposition commentators have said we look like Manchester City.
Bin them off and never use them again. I chatted with Meanie on Saturday, and asked him if his early testicular diagnosis was due to the fact he's such a big ****er, and always playing with them? Of course he'd expect nothing less. The views expressed in my posts are not necessarily mine.
Not sure anyone on here's suggesting we go back to "hoof ball". More that we stop ****ing about at the back when we're under pressure and nearly concede another goal. There's a middle ground between smashing the ball anywhere up field for it to come straight back at you, and the attempted suicide **** we saw in the first half on Saturday.
"I understand why the fans get like they do, you know," Slater told Hull Live. "We play risky football but it's a great style of play and I believe in what the gaffer believes in. As a football fan myself, I'd rather watch football like that than the ball getting lumped forward or not playing that way. "It's important they stay patient with us, we're not going to be perfect all the time. We might get bits and bobs wrong but it's nice football." "I don't know how everyone is feeling deep down, but as a group, I know we're all on the same page and everyone does believe in that style of play, whether we're 5-0 down or it's the 94th minute to keep playing that way and doing the right things because, as you saw, we might not have been able to put the finishing touches to it, but we created some great chances and a lot of them. "I believe that if you can't win the game, don't lose the game and that's not happening at the minute and that may have happened in previous seasons. There's always things we can take from each game, that we can build and improve on. We played some great stuff at times and if we'd have won the game, nobody would have complained about how we play the football but ultimately three points is what matters. We went to Stoke and scored three. It is there, there is so much quality in this group of players, so it will come."
Slaters one. ‘Weakness’ is that he doesn’t control / cushion the ball as well as needed , it bounces away and makes it an opposition opportunity for regaining possession. Lastly occasionally he doesn’t look for the more expansive pass as others have said . If he can improve his control and look about more he would be much better. He grafts he’s got heart and is dangerous running st defences from 30 yds out - he needs polishing that’s all .
Feels like there's a disconnect between how LR wants the team to set up and what they have seemingly bought into and what the fans are getting frustrated about. I think everyone enjoys this style of football, when it's done well, as the fans showed on Saturday, but equally the ****ing about in our own 6 yard area is just bonkers, which the fans, rightly groaned about on Saturday. I don't remembering hearing boos, nor would I condone them. I don't understand patient build up in the final minutes of a match, when you're on the front foot, either. I guess that's why LR earns the big bucks and not me.
First touch aside, given LR's "attacking too quickly" comments. Perhaps he's just doing as he's told.
