George Osborne says that scrapping HS2 would be the wrong thing to do. David Cameron says that scrapping HS2 would be the wrong thing to do. Boris Johnson says that scrapping HS2 would be the wrong thing to do. So clearly HS2 should be scrapped. It began under the flimsiest of justifications and is now massively over budget and could end up costing £100bn just to get a train from Birmingham to London no quicker than you can do the same journey now. Surely a better way to spend £100bn would be on the electrification of the railways across the North of the country to improve services. Manchester Mayor Andy Burnham says that a Labour government would commit to completing the project. I wonder whether he ran that announcement past Dame Kelly Stormer and Rachel Reeves first, as the leader and the Shadow Chancellor have both been big in recent weeks on no uncosted spending. Everybody that does not live in London, Birmingham, Manchester and Leeds is probably not happy to be contributing towards this white elephant.
Starmer went over to Canada to brown nose with progressive failure Justin Trudeau, a Woke God across The Pond. He also got to spend some time with the Woke Goddess Jacinda Ardern, who jumped from the top job in New Zealand before she was pushed. The audience with the Godfather Tony Blair was to be expected. A quick trip to Paris to try and get Emmanuel Macron’s EU blessing left him with a dilemma. Committing to stay aligned with the failing EU on pretty much everything will go down well with the Remainer wing of the Labour Party. But at the same time he had to tell ‘Red Wall’ voters that voted for Brexit that there was no going back. Dame Kelly Stormer could eventually figure out what a woman is... or narrow it down to two options to try and keep everyone happy.
HS2 was a good idea badly executed. The main benefits wouldn't be about getting quickly from London to the midlands or the north, but the release of availability of the existing main line tracks, that would increase the frequency of trains on other routes, which in turn would release road capacity with subsequent cost savings and other financial benefits
The phones need to be activated by apple & I'm pretty sure you can't but a sim in the new ones . So these over excited "basketball Americans " are stealing shiny paperweights
