Willing to try anything if it helps, back in the 80s I did a lot of beach fishing and would always use squid with worm baits, constantly outfished and irritated the ****e out of my cousin:emoticon-0102-bigsm

Same here mate mines in the loft as well, desperately need a clear out, there’s probably 20 rods and I’ve packed in coarse fishing so all that can go.
Funny story, last year I decided to take up fly fishing so bought 3 rods and reals and a licence, then I went and asked some people I know if I could fish on their rivers, they said fine, so I on the Thursday I went to see a lad who’s a cracking fly fisherman. I spent a couple of hours at his house and he taught me loads. When it came to leave his home he says you need to get a move on the trout fishing season finishes tomorrow night <laugh><laugh><laugh> I haven’t bothered since then I can’t be arsed<laugh>

Fishing the QE2 lake near ashington for pike with my son years ago. I was spinning and had a two dead bait rods out which he was looking after. He hooked onto a pike I raced round and wound the other rod in and left it at the side of the lake, The pike went into the weeds and couldnt shift it. An old retired miner came along with his old alsation dog paddling in the water. It managed to hook itself on one of the treble hooks in the leg. I had a pike on one rod and adog on the other. I tried to get the hook out of the not too happy alsation but couldnt. The old retired miner wasnt too happy happy either. In the end I cut the line leaving the hook in the dog with the old retired miner saying he would have to go to the vets. The pike still wouldnt budge from the weed bed. I gave the line a huge tug and it snapped the line. We saw the outline of the pike swim away. Not a great experience. I did offer the old retired miner some money for the vet bill but he declined the offer.

It wasnt trying to pull the 2 big buggers in, one of them was released unscathed, the other one was released with my Popper still in its wing, it was still flying when released so hopefully it was ok

When we lived in France I used to have a three day fishing break with three mates driving down near Bordeaux carp fishing.
One day we stopped fishing for an hour to get breakfast and I left my rod, sweetcorn still attached and when we got back my rod had almost disappeared into the long grass.
Thinking the lads were messing about I went to retrieve the rod only to find a Mallard duck sitting quietly in the grass having eaten the sweetcorn and got the hook through its tongue.
Took me bloody ages to free the duck, if I'd weighed it in it would have beaten any of the fish I caught that day.
It was a long time living that one down.
