There are no LJ lovers, only haters. I, and others recognise that LJ did a reasonable job, until he didn’t. The haters wanted him too fail from day one, a big difference.
Mundane or not, you put the stats up there that show this. It’s backfired on you now though. For me, Pulis was a far worse appointment, and manager than LJ. I don’t care what managers did or didn’t do before or after they were with City, I only care what they do when they’re at our club.
Nothing has backfired, what are you waffling about tonight? Pulis and LJ were both crap managers for Bristol City IMO and got booted out, I put the stats up in the full knowledge that the mickey mouse cup was up there for LJ, the point of the stats is to prove the vast superiority of Pulis achievments against LJ's record, crap managers can improve after failure, LJ 1o years, 5 clubs, no promotions at any level, just a minor cup achievment, I agree with you Pulis was a terrible choice for us, as was LJ in my opinion, he had fabulous financial support from the owner, SL showed total faith, commitment and trust in the fella, what did he get for his time and patience, 4 seasons of average to poor Championship football, totally split fanbase leading to a debt of millions prior to Covid. You might be carrying on with your crusade for LJ but to me he is the David Brent of football, average player, average coach and average manager
No mate, celebrations all around, Champions, Promotion, we did the proverbial double, superb football ending up with a 6-0 win, fabulous times and we all enjoyed it together, never forget it, best times I've had since the Alan Dicks glory years, no shame I loved it, Cotts gave it to us and boy did we all ventilate.
You may be right, I can't argue, there was possible interference with signings but he faliled and had to go, no excuses, he did achieve successes in his career though and for that I give him credit.
Actually Wiz it ended up with an 8-2 win not 6-0. I was there!! https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/32471191
Well done mate, I hope you enjoyed it, sorry, I should have said a 6 goal margin and achieved 99points, it was a great achievment. please log in to view this image
I did enjoy it - very much. A great season, with some great football played - shame about Swindon breaking our uninterrupted winning run though, but I will always be grateful to Cotts for delivering us out of that horrible league. BUT it was only the 3rd tier. We are in a bigger pond now and the task is much harder - as became evident the moment we arrived. We are now cemented in the Championship - and although there have been no cups, no promotion and no Wembley outings, we have been above the 3rd tier in the English football pyramid for the longest uninterrupted period since the great Alan Dicks. Some people consider that failure and that's their prerogative, but I consider it an achievement - and the LJ/Ashton regime played its part. I do not expect people to change their minds on that period of our history - or Lee Johnson, but I do try to balance the criticism so it's fairly distributed. A lot of people's dislike of LJ is rooted in the nepotism claim from his player days - which has also been a criticism aimed at his father for playing him. I find it interesting that whilst all this nepotism has been (and still is) used as a stick to beat LJ with (and his dad), nothing is ever mentioned about 'Sir Nige's' own little 'nepotism' situation when as Leicester manager he signed his son, James, in 2012 who hadn't played for a club since Rotherham released him in 2009 - 3 years without a club (!!). Still on Leicester's payroll, he was loaned out to Carlisle, where he played a few games before returning to Leicester, where his pops extended his contract (£££) before loaning him out to several more lower league clubs. Still on the Leicester payroll (but clearly not good enough even for League 1) he went with Leicester on their promotional celebratory tour of Thailand in 2015, where he became embroiled in a very publicised racist sex scandal which outraged not just Leicester, but the world beyond football and led to his contract being terminated. Imagine; if James had kept it in his trousers (and the video cam off) he might even be on our staff in some capacity! Again, I feel the need to point out that I am NOT bashing Nige - he has my full support and I like what we are becoming. I'm just highlighting that when people play the nepotism card against Lee Johnson then it should also be noted that Nige has done it too.
Unfortunately the LJ haters and the Nige lovies will brush past most of that B&W as it won’t fit their argument.. you’re going to have to stop with all this reasoning, it’s on deaf ears mate!!
It was never about Nepotism for me. It was about a cheap appointment of someone with no managerial success or history, which divided the fan base, and such is his 'legacy', that ill feeling towards him continues to this day.
Just to repeat already made comments, it's amazing how a few individuals on here have this emotional feeling for LJ, the simple truth is he had fabulous financial support from the owner, SL showed total faith, commitment and trust in the fella, what did he get for his time and patience, 4 seasons of average to poor Championship football, totally split fanbase leading to a debt of millions prior to Covid. I personally have never used the nepotism argument against him, I was a big fan of GJ but LJ renowned for his waffle, excuses, zany ideas and complete failure to achieve any successes with us had his chance and several efforts since.
interesting comment .. sackings or moving on didnt get sacked from Oldham, or Barnsley or Sunderland! The young owner of Sunderland made a statement that he "DIDNT THINK LJ was a strong enough manager, and I think A oN was available? Plus the fact he doesnt seem to be out of a job ...where ever he ends up ... for very long? ..unlike some .. not my opinion just reporting the facts!
