A pot of tea has the the British answer to all disasters, from death to serious injury, family problems and owt else you can think of.
As a Bobby I delivered many death messages before having your own phone was a thing, and made many a pot of tea for the grieving family.
Often used to think as a newly wet behind the ears kid of 19 delivering such messages to people old enough to being my grand parents and being thanked for my kindness, having just been the bearer of the worst possible news, it's a funny old world really.

    Yes, Round the horn.

Those two characters were played by Kenneth Williams and Hugh Paddick.

Enjoyed this thread....I'm 71...so can just about remember the Charlie Chester thing, amongst others. One thing I do know is that us oldies don't need to thieve any oxygen at the minute......the football we're currently playing will keep us going for a long while yet!:1980_boogie_down:

I am a mere youth of 63 mate but as has been stated by Brainy let's hope our style of football keeps us all going for a while yet without the need for any more oxygen than necessary.

I'm 74 but one of the favourite radio programmes when I was younger, was the news hudd lines with Roy Hudd and when I was a young kid it was the Clitheroe kid

Shame. I'd suggest persevering until end of Season 1 at least. Got some great characters in there and good storylines

Didn’t care for the show but I felt sorry for David McCallum. Treated very shoddily by his wife and Charles Branson.

That must have been a harrowing job for someone so young.
