Maybe but last time we were in League One we were under new owners, they'd appointed Alan Pardew manager (a huge name for League One) and signed Rickie Lambert. We also had Lallana who somehow stayed with us through those days, AOC was emerging, Schneiderlin as well. That team was insane for League One. The only reason it took 2 attempts to go up was the points deduction. I would genuinely fear for our future if we went down there again. Last time we had already hit rock bottom but after the takeover things were heading in the right direction again. This time would be completely different IMO.
As Tom said, we had a big manager name for that level, spent £1m on Rickie, had exciting players at the club. New owners with a plan for promotion.
Yep just looked it up and was 17,849 - also the only season since move to SMS where we didn't get a single 30k crowd, highest was 27,228
Do we really think SR will make a move? If we keep getting spanked which is looking an unfortunate reality, surely they have to reconsider?
I don't think we're that close to it now or even after the Leeds game tbh. Think Rotherham could be the one.
I doubt it, in the near future anyway. Clearly Martin was hired because of his style and they should/will appreciate it could take time to implement into the team. It’s only been 8 games ultimately and we are only 3 points off the top 6 as it stands. Wouldn’t surprise me if he got til Jan unless we lose every game, but we’ve already shown that we can scrape past the poorer sides in the division so can see him lasting awhile longer. I said before the Sunderland game that the run of the next 5/6 games would tell us what we needed to know about whether this side was a promotion contender as we were playing some of the better sides in a row, well I guess we know now that we might scrape playoffs but not much more.
I think we might want to step back and consider that this isn't purely RM's fault. You have to look at recruitment. Only Jack Stephens is remotely a leader - and he got injured putting in the kind of painful tackle that has disappeared since he got injured. In the cold light of day I would like to see if we can get back to winning ways when he comes back. How do you manage a team of children?
We could be very Saintsy, and beat Leeds (buying Martin some grace), then get pumped against Rotherham.
Nah Leeds attack is the best in the league so we will get pumped. We will beat Rotherham though like we beat Plymouth, unconvincingly.
Leeds will smash us unfortunately. I don’t care what league we are in as long as we actually compete and win some games tbh. Would be very happy with league one if it meant we didn’t get trounced every week. Unfortunately that logic didn’t really work going down from the PL though
We're already half way to our win tally for last season mind! Third of the way to last year's goal tally too.
