A CEO has power, maybe SL didn’t want anyone having that much power? Clearly PA wasn’t having anymore of what SL was doing to him, and walked away. Something very wrong at the top of our club!!
Certainly seems there was a clash of some sort, although in fairness Gould was probably a hard act to follow. I’d imagine SL is difficult for a CEO to work with as really speaking all financial decisions are going to have to be signed off by him.
Having control is not a problem with me but total control smacks of something else more sinister and I have believed that the latter has been the case at Bristol City for a very long time. I know a lot of us have had concerns about some of the decisions made over many years, and managers, but if you go back to two managerial appointments I believe they were employed solely as yes men to the man at the top. Clearly SL mistakenly hired a guy who was never going to submit to strangulation in his new employment and so he left when he finally accepted submission, rather like Steve Coppell back in the day when he saw the writing on the wall, as far as being allowed to make major decisions, very quickly. How can we progress after finally getting very close to the truth, or at least as far as the real truth is told, and expect the main reason you buy tickets to remain and that probably is success on the field. My faith has taken a severe knock but then again I have to be honest with myself and say that I will always support the team, but the energy and excitement has gone forever due to the lack of honesty and desire in our leadership.
On a positive note, what it does mean is the the decisions made by the football element of the management team, ie Tinnion and Nige, will deal directly with SL, who let’s be honest pulls all the financial strings anyhow. There is now no room for misunderstanding by a CEO, who will only be a middle man, I believe the debacle over the sale of Scott is largely to blame, in one way or another, for the departure of PA. I think he stuck too literally to not allowing any of the Scott money to be used to bring in any players. The problem has now been eliminated as SL will deal directly with Tinnion and will therefore be able to make those decisions himself.
merely supposition, no one knows what the truth is and speculation is often wrong. The only "truth we have" [ or feasible comment ] is the comment made that one way or another SL would cover a set amount of money to be spent in the summer window. regardless of AS going or staying. Media come up with an attention seeking headline " PA suddenly resigns" makes it really sinister, [ thats their job! negativity / bad news sells! ] The revamp didnt happen overnite, or in a matter of hours, probably took a while .. maybe a couple of weeks. It might be possible that "no extra money" was being made to strengthen in addition to what had happened up to AS leaving, and caused a bit of discomfort between factions [ club staff/ expectant supporters/ supporters who dont read, absorb previous statements ]. Fans expect and have had SL picking up various tabs, but he is not the bank!!! the bank handles the day to say running in a business account [ those of us on here who have had them know the costs involved, and charges made so reducing interest on day to day costs, when talking in £'s of a million of more is a worthwhile saving? [ balance is everything new player v debt reduction for example ] Bristol sport is the umbrella that encompasses all the ACTIVITIES.. SL has a separate account to service BCFC? We now have permission for the next stage of expansion.. so how does that fit in, in the wider scheme of things? this is my interpretation, not an opinion
Absolutely, it’s all speculation, no one knows for sure, except the people involved, and rightly so. We all of course all draw our own conclusions, that’s human nature.
Does anyone really think that the disappearance of our ex-CEO, and the apparent elimination of the position, make Bristol City stronger in any way? Will the direct daily contact between the on-field staff and the top brass (whoever that is these days) make things run more efficiently or will the song remain the same? I am hoping for the day when the real Bristol City, that has been waiting in the wings for way too long, suddenly bursts into bloom and my world becomes a happier place. What??
Over the past 10 years or so we seem to have gone through nearly as many CEO's as we have Managers. Sextone, Gould, Ashton, Alexander, Have I missed any ?
