Stuart Dallas resumed Leeds United training on Thursday after almost 18 months out with a serious knee injury.

The 32-year-old defender remains a number of weeks away from being in contention to feature in first-team fixtures, but the return to training is a major and positive step in his rehabilitation programme.

Dallas has been absent since breaking his femur bone during Leeds’ Premier League fixture against Manchester City in April 2022.

He recently took to Twitter to deny rumours that he would be retiring following his lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Dallas had been ever present for Leeds prior to sustaining the injury, starting every league match during the 2021-22 campaign.

The Northern Irelandinternational moved to Elland Road from Brentford in 2015 and has made 267 appearances for the club in all competitions.

If he came back into the team same shape, as he left us, I’d have him back pronto. Think he did an excellent job on the left side, and personally I’d be content with him and Byram for LB, in the Championship. I’d prefer a left footer(cue Emu ), but we can always wish……oh damn, forgot about Firpo.

I would love nothing more than Dallas to come back as he was but it is a huge ask. Physically will be very tough (Bamford, Cooper, Forshaw) but I think mentally is even bigger. You would have to be harder than a whores heart to not be thinking of pulling out of challenges after what he has been through.
