I'm voting no, but not because Howe isn't a good manager, I just wouldn't rank him amongst the top managers in the league or Europe. I think he's a bit too soft, plays favourites and doesn't make the tough decisions. These things will hold him back In the League Cup final we were static and second half we looked slightly worse. That's just not how you perform if your manager knows how to win a cup. For the record I think the most useless addition to Newcastle United so far is Dan Ashworth. I absolutely detest some of our transfer business since he came in.
No he seems a bit simple and safe in his approach. FFP has done it's job with every other pretender and It's probably going to do for Newcastle.
It’s too early to say. He’s not learning by his mistakes. For example BDB shouldn’t be playing. I wonder who is in charge of recruitment. Buying players we didn’t necessarily need was a bit strange at this stage of the project. Was this him or Ashworth?
Of course he will. Too many people wanting instant, which ends up being bitter, when we all know that it’s worth the wait for percolated.
I actually don't think Newcastle not winning anything at all should be ruled out. The chances are slim there's only 4 competitions max every year and there's a club like man city which will hoover up most of those for the next 5 years just for starters.
Bit of luck involved i.e. us last season, away to Tranmere and then 3 home games but not so handy this time round!
This. We've already made a cup final and are investing £100m+ a window. The squad is so much stronger than 2 years ago and while we need a bit of luck in the draws (not drawing City in the first round always helps) there will be potential over the next few years to win a trophy as we grow. Howe originally signed up in 2021 until 2024 (this summer) but got a "long term" contract after less than a year - but it wasn't disclosed how long that was for but at a guess I'd say 4 years from '22 would take us to '26. I'd like to think while we may not be in a position to challenge for a league by then we'll be making the latter stages of the cups and qualifying for Europe meaning there are 2/3 cups to challenge for a season excluding the league so he'll have 6-10 opportunities to do so as long as he's seen to be progressing the team. We have the foundations in for a decent team in a few years already: GK Livarmento - CB - Botman - Hall Tonali - Bruno - Willock Gordon - Isak - LW If you could fill the outstanding positions there with: GK - Ramsdale (Arsenal) CB - Scalvini (Atalanta) LW - Fati (Brighton loan from Barcelona) as well as bringing through some of the youth players signed (Minteh, Kuol, Ashby, Sanusi) and retaining some more experienced pro's like Wilson, Joelinton, Longstaff*, Anderson* Barnes etc. we'd be well on the way to having a team that can really compete at the top level and, again, with a bit of luck in the draws we should be in a position to try and win a pot.
There are three things that guarantee success in football. 1) Money 2) Money 3) Forging a squad into a team 3 is the difference between Chelski and Man City right now. Eddie has shown he can do 3, and should be given every chance to do so now we have 1 & 2.
The chances are no, because how many finals do you get in about 4 years realistically? And if we haven't won owt by then the board will probably have pulled the trigger. But let's hope that isn't the case.
